GENGHISRAHN 2007-11-16 |  | UW PROs/CONs |  | As for UW`s by NPCs, the reason for them is to liven the game if too long of a period goes without an attempt at an UW. We went along stretch without a UW attempt after the last successful UW, so the admins set up two NPC fleets that if you remember Kxx were never set in motion because of SexyCandyMans UW attempt precluded the NPCs. SCM`s UW failed and there was no game reset. The Admins I beleave do not see the need for a so called reset, and I don`t regard it as a reset. I`ll say it again. an UW only benifits the big fish that are well established. A trillion credit empire will rebound far more quickly from an successful UW then an empire of 10 bil.
The less the catastrophic circumstances for an aspiring empire, the further up the totem pole he /she may climb. Hence that`s why those already at the top author and support UW`s. They don`t want the competition.

VALJA 99+ day(s) ago | yeah... i do agree at some points with KatsRule... too bad that in order to have unlimited options it`s restricted to hardware`s limitation frm what i`ve heard...
anyway, in order for players to spend their incomes without hoarding the market, there are some stuff frm UC can be brought to GC... but so many GC`s purists are against it... the funny thing is, UC is having more players than GC nowadays...
as for me, i don`t expect a total make over with GC... introducing few options for players to spend their incomes would be a start... think about it... when there are other places where players can put their incomes, the market would be the last place for them to hang out... unless of course, IF we have temples like in UC, ores gonna be the hot item in the market... :P |

losing 90% of a trillion is better than losing 90% of 1 billion, or even
90% of 1 million.
Someone said "making my first million was the Hardest." Well its the
same here. If your empire can make a million you can make a second.
Normally that gives you 2M. If a UW pops sure you lose, but it won`t be
long before you earn that second, and third. On the other hand, Losing
900B (and more for some), is never, never going to be a casual setback. The
effects are uniform, never good for the individual.
The truth is that we`ve got a closed economy, We`ve got unlimited
planets, that produce unlimited wealth. But there is a Max on the cash
and wealth you can have. Mineral prices are capped, and ship prices
never change. We are a pot, designed to simmer and always have a
pressure release valve. But his pot is boiling out of control. I guess
the pressure valve is broken.
I Would support ShatteredDreams, and have 6 straight KalZul UW`s, but I
don`t think even 1 would succeed. Certainally not the first one.
So its up to us, the players that care, to right this ship. Less wealth
would be good for everyone. 100 queens will kill 3 hercs just like a
1000 queens will kill 30 hercs, why have to spend the extra turns?
So I purpose that we start a sign up sheet for player UW`s! We can
schedule one every 2 or 3 days. Eventually we`ll all get bored shooting
them down, and one will succeed. Its a Bitter pill but we all will be
better off. |
VALJA 99+ day(s) ago | lol... 420Renegade... do you know that IF Stephen says that after successful UW the empire that started that UW in the first WON`T BE LOSING ANYTHING... you know what, i definately started my own UW long time ago... whether succeed or not, definately i`ll try... coz i won`t lose anything...
so can anyone agrees that even after a succesfuly UW, nothing much to lose except pride and cash? i guess not, coz most of us are good at fighting but suck at managing... i do admit i might suck both but hey, i enjoy this game since the first time i`ve played... and guess what... my silly terran empire is at 1300 days old today... and i`ll still pay for another 1 year in 3 months time... i don`t mind ppl calling me newbie, newb, loser, etc... i don`t mind losing 3 planets and explore more... (but i do mind about enslavement though... lol) look at my battles ratio... you all can laugh at it, but still... i don`t mind... why? coz SFGC just ain`t any other game when you can just "reset" and start all over again...
there`s a reason why Stephen make the infras level as high as 255 with maybe million of turns to complete... this game is for a long run... you might made mistake for choosing this game in the first place... but hey... this ain`t monopoly... the fame and glory just ain`t for days... it for months and perhaps years.... :) |

So if an alternate way to complete the game could be added? That doesn`t involve huge losses for those who just enjoy building empires |

Truly I don't see the need to reset most the people that want such a massive reset penalty are in the plans for setting it off and not feeling the bad effects. Personally the UW does with its penalty is fine. It may kick small empires in the teeth and it may not hurt large empires that much but that is just life. Adapt and over come improvise. The fun about strategy game is not the win it is the competition and planning. The fun of seeing your plan if it works, if it doesn't you correct the problem and try again. UW's are a way to further plans and that is it I think it is just fine and how it works now is about right in my mind. |

VALJA 99+ day(s) ago | why everyone is so fond of "reset" here and then? why can`t we have a game that can last as long as it can be just an alternative to real life... in real life, sooner or later we`re definately going to be "reset" for good, that is death... as long this game can last forever even though not an eternity, it does give some alternate realities just like any other games...
why can`t we remind ourselves that a good and great empires of our world weren`t built in one day, few days or even months... some of them took years and decades... just coz some of you like to change races as often as changing undies, please don`t expect the rest to follow suit... some of us do plan what we want in the long run...
so far this game is all about fighting like you all said, but why aren`t you all missing the part planning and running an the empire... none of any world`s military is just build in one day with cash to spend out of nowhere... they have their goverments to run the show of getting the cash... remember? in real life we have to pay tax, buy this and buy that... nothing is free and easy to get to some of us...
so... if you think you can just fight BUT can`t run an empire... i don`t think SFGC is the place for you... SFGC isn`t just all about fighting... it`s about building an empire that you all can be proud of...
you build it, you run it, you fight for it... that`s the essence of SFGC................. |

Psilokahndragons 99+ day(s) ago | your missing the point. which is that a UW will still take more from everyone else leaving the fed to make it haoppen better off then everyone else and larger empires will still bounce back easier then smaller ones. doesnt matter if it takes arti`s population land or straight up planets from you. the UW isnt a true reset i is a kick in the teeth to the smaller empires |
ShatterdDreams 99+ day(s) ago | i did suggest some time ago that the KalZul should attempt 8 UW`s in a row...as in no more that two days inbetween attempts and that last 6 attempts would include a loss of 90% land and 100% of artifacts and the attempts would only stop should one go off. it may be harsh but w/e and no it shouldn`t just make everyone restart because they will still have the same planet count and infra lvls. |

Im not really that sure on land or research anyway but i definitely think artis should be taken. I would probably give more benefits to the uw and the fed and 1 or possibly 2 supporting feds |

AGM94 99+ day(s) ago | Uws should really take 90% of artifacts as well as the possibility of infra or land. That would make more of a difference to big players and make it fairly overall. As you said the big empires with high research and a large income are not really affected at all by the uw.
UWs are extremely hard to finish on RT(cant comment on other servers as i dont really play any and dont know fed strengths) because of the pretty much constant turn generation it can only take a few active players to pretty much kill uws from almost any start pr.
The reason the players at the top are the only to try uws is because noone else really stands a chance and they are mostly supported by high pr players because they are the ones they are more likely to be in a fed with or have an alliance with. |
