Kusari 2007-01-18 | | A new revelation | | I`ve suspected this for some time, but now I have what appears to be proof. Part or all of UC and GC was not written by Stephen. Check out the following quote from Stehpen`s recent announcement about reinforcements in UC:
"Priority of Reinforcement from Stephen (technical point of view):
I`ve set the system so the server will choose the reinforcements by itself by setting `choose field` to `server select`. Therefore I personally do not know how the server will choose the reinforcements. However `in theory` the server may choose the reinfocements based on the following, either one or a combination of a few of the choices below.
"
I don`t know how stephen does things, but when I write a program, I know exactly how I intended it to work, even if there are bugs in the code that cause it to behave in an unexpected manner. The only way you would be that clueless is if you are modifying or implementing a piece of code someone else has written but not clearly documented.
There is nothing wrong with this, you don`t have to be an expert programmer to run an online game. However you should at least hire someone who is, instead of trying to do everything yourself. |

Kusari 99+ day(s) ago | If stephen is really having so much trouble changing the code, he should seriously consider an open source approach. He wouldn`t have to put up the whole thing (if he did people would steal his code), but he should at least make sections available and allow the programmers among us to work on it. |
Maraudian 99+ day(s) ago | im sure you have all seen the below
Stephenglish
Stelogic
Ste math |
Ansem 99+ day(s) ago | Lights torches and hands them out to people. How dare stephen create a program that can write program we shall revolt. lol lol lol lol lol |
Dreamland 99+ day(s) ago | mmm if he doesn`t know what he did but he did it so if he wrote the program...means he wrote a program to write that program...means he designed a program to design stuff which means he`s a genius :O someone give him the best programmer of the year award and kill him for making a program to take over millions of peoples jobs :P |
Kusari 99+ day(s) ago | In that case Maraduain, apparently no one ever told him to comment his code. ;) |
CaNnAbIsViLLe 99+ day(s) ago | speaking of coding... why the heck can i not use 45 turns at once to explore? Why do i have to use 9? Makes no sense... i should be able to use all 45 turns like when rewarding, at least for paids... or when digging come to think of it... i know if you use 3 turns per dig you`re liable to get more arti`s during the specific dig times but sometimes i`m just wasting turns for the income... i should have the option of choosing how many turns i would like to use up to my 45... currently i max out loyalty on my borders when i wanna just waste turns cuz i cant be bothered w/ clicking dig 5 times to use my turns...
*wonders how many infraless planets of mine w/ 5000 loyalty there are out there, lmao |
species382 99+ day(s) ago | "...and theres never been a reason for him to look at it since ..."
well, i would disagree, there is a hellofalot reasons to look at and fix the code! |
Maraudian 99+ day(s) ago | as for uc`s side dunno dont care ^_^ |
Maraudian 99+ day(s) ago | stephen started the game as a hobby not a job , that was over 3 years ago he added that coding , and theres never been a reason for him to look at it since ... |
Kusari 99+ day(s) ago | This theory would explain a lot about GC. If Stephen wrote the code for the game himself, then he would be familiar enough with it that making minor adjustments to ship stats and economic modifiers would only take a few hours. If on the other hand, the code was written by someone else, then it would be a lot of work to figure out what controlled what and make the proper adjustments without crashing the game. It would also explain why the last several updates have been removals. Select, delete, confirm, takes all of 30 seconds. |
