  Custom Race: a fresh idea

Lately any discussion of a customizable race has died out, lergely because A) we are still hoping for a real update deep down and B) because viratually all the suggestions about this idea up until now would be things that would completely unbalance the game.

Here is my view. Right now, the community has more or less reach a consensus as to the changes that need to be made but we haven`t seen any of them because Stephen hasn`t implemented them. Imagine if instead of waiting years for Stephen to do a simple tweak on a race, we could do it ourself.

The basic idea is that rather than the usual idea of allowing players to create their own customized race from scratch (which would lead to complete anarchy) the customization process lets you pick on of the existing races as a template, and then adjust various aspects of that race within certain limits. So for example, you couldn`t select the A Miner template and turn them into farmers. You could however adjust the modifiers for CG production and mining to produce either a mining or a industry specialist.

Here are some limits and restrictions:

1) This feature would be unlocked by completing all the missions for a race thus `beating the game`.

2) All playable races except for virals would be available as templates.

3) Changes can be made at any time, however each `aspect` can only be changed once, so once the player confirms the change it becomes permanent.

4) After an aspect is customized, the player must wait 48 hours before the changes take effect.

5) Each improvement made in one aspect has a corresponding negative impact on some other trait. So for example, improving an economic trait might reduce ship build rates or increase ship costs. Each player does have a small and limited number of `points` however that they may spend to improve one trait without a negative impact on another. the number of points required would vary depending on the aspect being changed.

Fleak: how Much you could change an aspect would be based on it`s original value. So a Miner for example might be able to increase Mineral production by 50% but taxes only 5%.

Hmmm...
negative tax from population = you give money for ur population to live?
negative mineral gereration = give minerals to live
negative agricultural = rotting food?
negative infrastructure maintainance = people pay you to renovate ur towns
negative demand for goods = people dont want goods so they give goods for 5 dollars WOAH!
negative plundering colonies = pay for someone to clear up the dust from plundered colonies
negative industrial efficiency = very tempered bad workers so use goods to make raw materials?

LOL

balancing this would be difficult as people can choose to have 0 agricultural or industries but have negaiive for that aspect.

I would not mind having tons of income and tons of upkeep for buildings cos they would produce more in the end.

If there is a game to copy, I would suggest archspace the control model is an obvious way of how this idea works. you can switch from 3 different aspects in that game research, industrial or military.

bad thing about that game is that it is too fast paced =P and spams resets too often

Words from stephen

GC does have sentimental value to me and a number of players as the `original root` spacefed (gamestotal.com).

If he cared he would updated it

It's a good idea Kusari, but as some stated it's not likely Stephen will do much about making that possible.
Well 1 day it might happen if you are lucky :-))

Sounds like those games I play if you add speed you take away power etc etc, its hard to implement I think on this type of game, though with programming and stuff available, could be possible, dont want to shoot down the idea, but dont think Stephen would implement the code :S
