Hyperion 2014-11-02 | | What`s in a name ? | | So after a rather humourous PM banter between myself and Borok about name changes I wonder if people would explain why they call them selves what they do ?
So I am called Hyperion as my is called Titanomachy which:
In Greek mythology, the Titanomachy (/ˌtaɪtəˈnɒməki/ Greek: Τιτανομαχία) was a ten-year[1] series of battles fought in Thessaly, consisting of most of the older generation of deities (the Titans, based on Mount Othrys) fighting against the younger generation (the Olympians, who would come to reign on Mount Olympus) and their allies. This event is also known as the War of the Titans, Battle of the Titans, Battle of the Gods, or just the Titan War. The war was fought to decide which generation of gods would have domain over the Universe; it ended in victory for the Olympians.
Hyperion is one of the Titans

Travvivian 99+ day(s) ago | I got so tired, so quickly, of nubs asking me if there was a relation... Ugh. |
Hyperion 99+ day(s) ago | Trav I remember ;=-) |
Travvivian 99+ day(s) ago | I had used either "Barbarossa" or "Travvivian" on most of my online outlets since the late 90`s. Barbarossa being the more common, I believe was taken when I re-joined GC in `04 after losing touch with the game since first trying it in `03. Travvivian was thereby the back-up choice and the one that stuck.
As for it`s meaning, it was a small warlike star-faring race in some canon or fan-fiction I was a fan of once upon a time. And yes, the name and my use of it pre-dated that absurd "Travian" game GC competed with for attention, by some large amount. (lol, anyone remember that?) |
Hyperion 99+ day(s) ago | Don;t know about anyone else but love hearing the backstory and learning some more about you all
Lets keep them coming ! |
TheMechanics 99+ day(s) ago | My name TheMechanics derived from the film named The Mechanic (1972/2011). A serial killer... and that what I`m doing now... Hehe |
Renegade Game-Admin 99+ day(s) ago | Renegade - While there are two definitions to the word, these ones in particular describe it as I like to see it -
an individual who rejects lawful or conventional behavior
someone or something that causes trouble and cannot be controlled
When I signed up in 2003, it was a bit over a year or so since HammerFall (at the time then my favorite band) released their album Renegade, along with its title track of the same name. A number of people in my life (close friends, school administrators, family etc) liked to use the term to describe my antics. The combination of the two gave me the idea that it would make a good empire name, and people called me it IRL, so it wasn`t much of a stretch to 10 year old me. Someone else had the name at the time on GC, so I switched around a bunch of names till late 2004 when that empire went inactive, but I`ve had it since Aug 03 on UC/RT.
To give you guys an idea of how utilized the name has become to me, my closest friend of 19 years, my roomates, even my ex girlfriend of two years and her family all call me Ren to this day. I generally introduce myself to people as Ren. Some of them know the backstory and the full name, some don`t. It has essentially become a second name to me, that I respond to just as fast as my own given name (Richard).
Raist would be proud to know a silly nickname he made (Renren) ended up something my significant other would call me affectionately.
As you all might imagine though it is taken on many other games, so GC is really the only game where I actually have it.
@ Avaline, that`s really touching that you named yourself after her! :) I`m glad she is doing as well as she can.

Omegian 99+ day(s) ago | Good ole Broken Radar on EVE ...
I`ve had two names over the course of my game time here:
Omegian - a big believer of star trek, I based my name off an episode of Voyager about the Omega particle, which in the show was termed as the most powerful substance. As such, the other connotation of Omega from Greek having a meaning of "great" if I recall correctly. At that point I was studying Latin as my language and around 2004 I thought of no better word than personifying the word Omega, hence an Omegian.
XegaForce - had this for a while on Normal, Xega due to everyone naming themselves Sega but as an X to keep it different, partially because I reconnected with my long lost sega game gear that still works to this day, just needs new batteries. Where force came in was due to "use the force" ... it was corny, but it was a weird name I chose to stick by for a while until people figured out who I was.
I`ve enjoyed reading a few of these stories about this thread. Thanks Hyperion for this. |
Outsidthbox 99+ day(s) ago | I am keltikelti, part of a nick I was once called at a job. |
Draconianparadise 99+ day(s) ago | Avaline I love that story ! |
Sibiriangun 99+ day(s) ago | Because Africa (the GC player...) created en EVE account for me once with that name, and because him and PP always bugged me about my not-smart name on fast.
My slow and ultra empires were given other names, because I didnt want ppl to know who I was, since I have always joined the opposition when engaging a new server. On ultra I fought against Broken Radar, and I remember DrunkenMasters had his share of fun trying to figure out who I was. On slow I eventually wanted to do a fedless surprise UW.
After a while though, I ended up teaming up with those I played alongside on the other servers. |
Avaline 99+ day(s) ago | When my youngest Daughter was born she had life threatening health issues. Her name is Avaline. She almost died several times.
Today she is a Rock Star, she has disabilities but remains full of life, fun, strong, with incredible will power! |
420Outlaw 99+ day(s) ago | Original name psychclones, because I was young and thought it was clever.
Than I joined one of the best fed ever CC so 420 was a given, outlaw because I hadn`t really still grown up by then and thought being an outlaw sounded cool.... |
EphemeralEternity 99+ day(s) ago | Umm I`ll just stick with my RT names i suppose.
DarkLuna because i have collection of names i use for characters and places, and Darkluna is one of my empire/city names i used a lot
ScarletTears for just the whole melancholy idea of Crying tears of blood, which to me denotes Pain, Passion and exhaustion which was more or less my state of mind when i Donned that Facade in my life and served me well until i changed it again.
ShatterdDreams, Misspelled on purpose just because i like it better, and has nothing to do with the Song by Johnny Hates jazz, which is a decent song, but the name is an Hommage and acceptance of the past a way to honor it, respect it, and realize it was what got me where i am today despite it not going how i wanted.
EphemeralEternity, A contradiction of terms to me which means living out a life time in an instant, which came as a result of a series of some powerful dreams i had that seemed so real in which i lived my entire life out in each and knew that the passage of time there was real living out decades in those dreams only to have all it happen while i was sleeping then after i woke having all of it flash back in my mind was almost overwhelming. |
wingnut 99+ day(s) ago | My name is wingMut on ultra because of this:

wingMut 99+ day(s) ago | my name is wingnut to make sure any enemies know that I am unpredictable and crazy. |
EnderWiggin 99+ day(s) ago | It wasn`t until I went to college that I had to make another name for on online game, and by then I had taken a deep interest in writing. Ever since I`ve taken to naming myself after characters from my writing pieces, short stories, and poems. I usually pick the character who`s personality best fits my impression of the game when I`m signing up for it, or creating my character. Part of me wishes I had one name/tag across all the games I play, but then again I also like having names that only mean something to me. |
EnderWiggin 99+ day(s) ago | When I started playing this game I was 16 and fresh off reading a certain series of books. Up until that point I had never played any online games and so had never needed to make a name. Given that the game seemed space themed, and when I originally signed up I was sitting in a public library, there was only one name that seemed to fit. |
Hyperion 99+ day(s) ago | Kelti don;t be a smart a.ss !
Keep it going guys
