DraconianParadise 99+ day(s) ago | We all know the digging formula is :
%age chance of goodies = awesomeness x number of kitchen cups x sum total of chihuahuas in 2 mile ISP radius / circumference of your head
Silly admins

BadWolf 99+ day(s) ago | My primary point being information on things we haven`t seen the full backend for is either worked out, or comes from Stephen.. that which comes from Stephen isn`t always subject to 100% accuracy.
So take what I`ve said as you will, but i do know for 100% certain that oceanic/spaz are the best two digging planets as per the coding itself. :P
As EE said Stephen is odd and codes weird so who knows beyond that. -^

BadWolf 99+ day(s) ago | All we really can know is what we`ve seen, what we`ve been told, and what we`ve worked out.. as you can see in some of what i`ve found even information provided by Stephen isn`t subject to be 100% accurate.
Case in point
Mining Formula that i worked out:- (Planets in Colony * ((0.13 * Mining Research) + 1) * Race Mining Mod = Minerals per turn
Mining Formula provided by Stephen: Colony Size (No of planets in Colony) + ( Colony Size x Mining Research Lvl / 10 x Planet mining level / 100 x Racial Modifier)
Furthermore it`s not even a factor of planets in the colony.. it`s actually just c1`s are 5, c2`s are 25, and c3`s are 125, and everything else is 1 planet.

BadWolf 99+ day(s) ago | We`ve seen part of the backend of how digging works and from what we know "so in theory a 10 land oceanic `is` the best digging planet along with a 2 land spaz.. but looking directly at the back end oceanic and spaz are without a doubt the two best digging planets" is technically true looking directly at how it factors in class.
Now in relation to Stephen adding +50 land to everyone`s planets.. there`s something important to know that was not done with the admin panel.. it was done directly setting the changes, and if there are hidden factors you can 100% ensure that those were updated as well at that point in time. Now I`ve tested admin given planets against explored planets pretty extensively years back, and when i did so i found some very huge issues with the ones given from admin compared to the ones explored. In some of my testing the admin given planets were on par with 500 land barrens in digging, but at the same time I`ve had people tell me the admin given planets dig better than any other digging planet they`ve ever had.
As for how land factors in in a realistic setting i honestly can`t say because I`ve seen people who have gordoed spaz planets upto 10-50k+ and they`ve dug like they did at 2 land, I`ve seen people with 0 land spaz planets given from admin that dig worse than c3`s, and I`ve seen people with 0 land spaz planets given from admin which dig better than a good 2 land spaz did for them.
The only way anyone could give out a 100% definite answer is if they saw the whole backend of digging, and how it factors everything in. But given what i know if you explored a negative land planet, and it did in fact dig better than others.. then that means there are in fact hidden values that get set upon explore but aren`t shown or editable in admin. Exploration, and giving planets from admin are two very different things the only thing they do the same is setting the planet as a part of your colonies.. everything else of how it works is different.

EphemeralEternity 99+ day(s) ago | No stephen, around March 20th 2006 gave every planet that everyone had a +50 land bonus for just one of his random reason, afterwards stephen had to go back and fix those planets while pandy gave 2 land spaz, gases and w/e back to people that plundered them as compensation. that`s why from there on out stephen only gave out boost to planets with over 1k land.
It was during that time that my -2 land ocean ceased to be.
and Wing i`m not saying you`re wrong, i`m not saying your right, i`m just saying i don`t know, and no one really can without the formula. it would make since that a 0 land may be worse than a planet with land because the formula probably has something to do with a mod being divided by or divided into land of the planet being dug on...and we all know 0`s don`t work so well there...
and no i don`t think it`s silly to suggest that altered land size matters, but all those planets became 0 land the same moment they became a u spaz. before that they, and for all previous events, were 1K+balanced barrens or w/e.
but i don`t think stephen accounted for storing what a planet used to be and having it figure into a digging planet especially when prior to 2008ish there was no way to edit planets. also there`s still no way for staff to see what an edited planet was prior to being edited.
but stephen is odd and codes weird so who knows... the first letter in your empire name could matter for digging, as could your over all land, infra, infra type...i honestly don`t know, though i suspect it`s not that complex
if i ever figure out the formula i will share.
but the offer stands, if you have a 0 land spaz i will make it a 0, 1, or 2 land spaz keep it or not your call. |
Error404 99+ day(s) ago | Or for future events: Stop doing 0-land spazs and start running EE`s planet. He knows what it was... He could make an NPC try one out or something to see how it works maybe |
Renegade Game-Admin 99+ day(s) ago | Actually, wing, it`s all silliness to assume you know ANYTHING about digging. The only single person who has any idea what the formula contains is stephen. The most knowledgeable people to ever play this game have no idea what that formula is.
You can only check so much, and since there are tons of factors that go into the digging equation, all of your testing could be mushed. |
wingnut 99+ day(s) ago | Plus, it wasn`t a +50 land bonus, it was a +10% land bonus. Jesus. |
wingnut 99+ day(s) ago | I meant: "the vast majority dig worse than a 2 land." |
wingnut 99+ day(s) ago | that is all silliness EE.
How do you explain BW`s comment in this post?
http://gc.gamestotal.com/hef.cfm?&2072&f=hef_detail&hi=12213&ch=1
Also, these event spaz`s have all been thoroughly tested. The vast majority dig worse than a 5 land, and never any better than a 2 land.
It is silly to suggest that an altered land size affects planet modifiers. People have checked these things. |
EphemeralEternity 99+ day(s) ago | but as far as digging goes i know there`s a land size and planet far superior to 1 or 2 land spaz i had one once but stephen killed it with his +50 land to all planets bonus back in the day, and the admins wouldn`t comp me because it should have never existed anyhow and i haven`t heard of or seen one since. |
EphemeralEternity 99+ day(s) ago | but if it bothers people that much i will change all 0 land spaz in existence to 1 land they just need to pm me
Edited by EphemeralEternity on 2014-10-09 |
EphemeralEternity 99+ day(s) ago | It was never a 5 land spaz, no 0 land spaz in existence was ever a 5 land spaz or a spaz of any other land for that matter. But i can`t say how the digging formula works it`s possible that in the absence of land that the formula becomes wonky |
American4Ministry 99+ day(s) ago | Can Admins remove it or answer does it dig better than a 2 land spaz? cause ive been told it is a 5 land spaz altered to a 0 land and digs like a 5 land spaz |
EphemeralEternity 99+ day(s) ago | You can not plunder any planet with 0 land, the only way to get rid of them is to gordo them then plunder |
American4Ministry 99+ day(s) ago | Id rather not let it get to the top but i guess i could.... |
Outsidthbox 99+ day(s) ago | gordo it and try again |
Error404 99+ day(s) ago | Let it get taken and become someone else`s problem. Unless its buried under some goodies... In which case that IS a problem |
