Escape From Terra
Lieutenant Durgan turned to Morgan. “Sir, the main fleet just rounded Terra’s moon. It’s Grand Admiral Lasker, sir!”
This was quite a disappointing turn of events. Grand Admiral Craig Lasker was supposed to be on the other side of the quadrant engaging the emboldened Marauder forces. Something was not right here.
“Grand Admiral Lasker, what a pleasant surprise, sir!” As Morgan greeted the commander of the entire Terran navy, he simultaneously began motioning orders to Mike Durgan. They had to initiate a hyperspace jump if they had any hopes to escape. Mike picked up on the gesture and immediately began giving orders to the helmsmen.
“Admiral Morgan, just what do you think you are doing with the ships from the 3rd Fleet?”
Morgan was buying time. “Grand Admiral, sir, we have been tasked with quelling a rebellion over the moons of Neo Huron. Is there a problem, sir?”
“You see Admiral, planetary command on Terra reports that an unauthorized fleet departed the atmosphere from one of the sky hangars. Somehow I am not surprised to learn that you are behind this. We will have to bring you in. Not even your friend David can get you out of trouble this time, Morgan.”
Just then Lieutenant Durgan whispered to Morgan. “Scanners show that Lasker’s fleet is just over a quarter of the original size that departed Terra two months ago. We’re also detecting major hull damage on some of the closer warships. Something is definitely wrong here.”
His curiosity kindled, Morgan decided to probe. “Grand Admiral Lasker, where is the rest of your fleet, sir?”
“Not that it is any concern of yours, Morgan, but we were ambushed by the biggest Marauder force I have ever seen. I can tell you all about it as I personally escort you to the capital building to be court marshalled.”
Morgan knew that even with the reduced fleet size, Lasker’s warships had him outclassed and outnumbered at least four to one. |

99+ day(s) ago | As Morgan began to give up hope, one of the crew members motioned to Durgan who then signaled Morgan that the fleet had finalized preparations to make a jump.
“I’m afraid I’m going to have to turn you down on that tempting offer, Craig. Perhaps some other time.”
With that, Morgan terminated the communications and gave the green light to jump to another star system. Anticipating the move, Lasker’s ships had just closed the distance and were in range to fire upon Morgan’s fleet.
Fortunately the first missile detonated seconds after the last ship had lurched into hyperspace and onward to System LN23.
Meanwhile, Victor had been keeping himself busy by tracking down the Marauders’ main fleet in System LN23. The task of which was no easy undertaking considering the nomadic nature of most Marauders. Little did he know that Admiral Morgan was planning to return with a new fleet in a bid to rid the universe of the Viral plague. |
