i been playing a couple hours and trying to get an understanding of things and all i am getting is attacked and my colonies i am building taken, what a crabpy experience. you would think that the game ops would have a protection period for new players. most games have 24 hours or a few hours or till you get to level x here its a power rateing. but wait if i get planets and build them it increases my power rating? how not-smartic i think i will go elsewhere. |

you have scouts and starbases you can build, which don`t bring you out of damage protection. This allows you to explore for planets without being attack once you have damage protection.
on GC.real time where you are you have 24 hours once you get attacked and get damage protection (view this from your manage empire link) in which to recuperate and lick your wounds.
Unless
if you build any ship that isn`t a scout or starbase, damage protection removes instantly, hence the warning when building ships after being attacked.
If you attack you leave damage protection immediately.

So if you get more then 5k and get hit, you can build Scouts and explore planets, when maxed in planets (Colonize), then Research until the Ore is out of the planets, then sack them and explore for new planets. If you should find some good planets, then keep those and sack the rest when out of Ore. |

99+ day(s) ago | Eternal, if you read the Manual or went through the walkthrough, you would`ve learned about newbie/damage protection. The newbie protection is for people under 5k and if you go over, you aren`t protected. Although I agree with you in the fact that the beginning of the game may be a bit over-complicated for the newbies. But once you calm down and read the Manuals/tutes, you can gain a lot of valuable knowledge.
If you think about it a bit more, the protection is pretty similar to other games. What you`ve said: "till you get to level x" in some games -- planets are basically `levels` in this game. So I recommend you to leave off exploring for a while, and take your time to research a few things (commercial to level 20+, and build commercial on your home planet).
IMO, this game is the best text based/strategy game I`ve ever played. It`s the only one to get me addicted for over 5+ months (and I`m planning to play it for at least another 2 years). Trust me, if you take your time to get comfortable with the basics of this game, you will be hooked in no time.
However if you insist on leaving, we can`t stop ya. But one thing: you`re missing out on a great gaming experience here. |
