SerpentofOld 2011-04-19 | | Epic Movies versus Epic Fails | | Alright this thread is about movies that the majority of people would say are among the greatest movies of all time. The movies that everyone talks about when they come out, that become the highlight of conversations every where. you hear about them nonstop until they finally die out. Movies that, while not necessarily being "epic movies" in the literal term, have a big impact on the community`s social network.
Some movies don`t live up to the hype, others exceed it. Let me know your opinions on movies like this and whether or not you thought they were an Epic Movie or an Epic Fail :)
I will get it started with two highly talked about movies I`ve saw fairly recently.
First, Inception. Some would say that it keeps you guessing, that the plot keeps you asking "wtf?" People everywhere talk about how hard the movie is to follow and how you have to watch it more than once to get what`s going on. I saw it only to be disappointed. In one of the opening scenes the ENTIRE movie is clearly explained. There was literally no mystery, nothing to second guess. It was, from beginning to end, a really simple movie to follow with absolutely nothing that stood out as "mysterious" or confusing. This movie was good, in the sense that it was worth watching if you like movies, but far from epic. = Epic Fail |

WhatIsTheMatrix 99+ day(s) ago | The Matrix was a great trilogy. awesome story and sweet graphics. Last movie got a bit too prophetic and religious but all in all it was on par imo with lotr.
Love star wars
Love star trek
Avatar FTW

HoneyBucket{HH} 99+ day(s) ago | *pulls Saga`s pants down and runs away |
SagacityUSRR 99+ day(s) ago | Enter the Dragon - absolute top martial art movie ever |
Pandy 99+ day(s) ago | May not be the greatest, but I almost peed myself laughing at Hall Pass. Watched it in Holland, I swear half the fun was that it was in English with Dutch subtitles and the translations of some words were .. odd.
But omg the scene with the girl taht has a belly ache, and it was erk, but hilarious too, and teh scene where he is in the gym in the spa, so worth it. |
FistOfNoRemorse 99+ day(s) ago | Paper Work: The Movies was freakin amazing SoO |
SerpentofOld 99+ day(s) ago | I second what LK said. This is exactly the point I made about why they didn`t kill off the cat people in Avatar from a distance. If movies are TOO realistic, they won`t be entertaining. Imagine every cop movie ever made.. now imagine what it would be like if it was real.. there would be an arrest in the beginning of the movie, then the rest of the movie would be them filling out the paper work lmao.
Over thinking movies just doesn`t make sense. |
LegendKiller 99+ day(s) ago | That makes way way too much sense for movies lmao... |
DarkRaist 99+ day(s) ago | Maybe I missed this part in the Terminator movies but... Why didn`t they just drop an EMP on some little robots?
*blinks at simplicity and waits for hard core Terminator fans to say how wrong this would be*
i`m sure a giant supercomputer who orchestrated the take over of the world, and a thus far, a failed attempt at human extermination would have placed EMP shielding on it`s little minions, wouldn`t take that much effort, Skynet is 4evERR

LegendKiller 99+ day(s) ago | Speaking of other Epic sci-fi....its April 21 2011....Skynet becomes aware today!!! lol(Terminator for those not knowing) =)
*Sarah better start running =) |
FistOfNoRemorse 99+ day(s) ago | enter the dragon |
vehystrix 99+ day(s) ago | On the matter of epic Sci-Fi: Starship Troopers! Oh and the alien films.
Honorable mention: Predator (Arnie shouting "Get to da choppah!", EPIC)
Also, any Chuck Norris movie, if you`re set for mindless epic arsekicking from the 80`s |
SerpentofOld 99+ day(s) ago | Lord of the Rings, now there is an epic movie if there ever was one! That is one of the most interesting plots I have ever saw from a movie. It is also an impressive feet transitioning from a book to a movie without uber failing. The whole series was interesting and exciting. Not much I can say about it though, there is just too much to cover to bother going into details. Very good series (books included).
Star Wars has got to be one of my favorite series. The first movie blew people`s minds when it came out, the special effects was unrivaled. The trend continued throughout the franchise. I am definitely more into Star Wars than Star Trek, but then I just like the flashy colors more than a rich and compelling story for Sci Fi.. unless you can have both in one (Avatar FTW) ! There is no question that the first one is among the best movies of all time, right? First trilogy beats the second one, imo, because the second trilogy too heavily touched on "history repeats itself." A cool concept, but seriously, 6 hours of the same movie only re-done with different characters and much better graphics? I loved all the movies, so I`m not dogging the new trilogy. It just kind of replaced an epic and unique storyline with awesome special effects and punchlines. |
Renegade Game-Admin 99+ day(s) ago | @ jiggly - They did do a Live action Dragon Ball film, though not Z...
It was possibly the most horrendous piece of crab I`ve ever sat through in my life. And I have seen some awful movies. It does not even merit further discussion. |
DarkRaist 99+ day(s) ago | *insert Queenly firm nod*
*Leonidas readies self*
Madness? THIS IS SPARTA *punts a ho`*
This is about when all the males and a few females jumped up and shouted back with approval. |
LegendKiller 99+ day(s) ago | Epics...LOTRs and Starwars...:) |
SerpentofOld 99+ day(s) ago | This.. is... SPARTA!! Epic. |
DarkRaist 99+ day(s) ago | I remember grabbing up a friend and his gf after work, and going to see 300 in the theatres when it was released. When Leonidas punked the persian into the well... i think every male in the theatre stood up and cheered from the sheer testosterone and epic waves flowing through the area... |
FistOfNoRemorse 99+ day(s) ago | i avoided avatar because i havent enjoyed any of his previous films i wasnt gunna pay for (or pirate) this one |
SerpentofOld 99+ day(s) ago | 300 was epic for what it was. It was about bad ace battle sequences and raw "let`s kill shet" attitude. Which 300 done perfectly imo. That is easily one of my top action movies of all time. |
SerpentofOld 99+ day(s) ago | vehy, epic indeed.
WendysBaconator I agree. People that go into a movie with the concept that it is all hype so it can`t be good will not enjoy it no matter how great it is most the time. I keep an open mind, but sadly it is hard not to be disappointed when a hyped up movie turns out to only be good instead of great :( And yeah, if you aren`t willing to invest your emotions and mind into a movie like Avatar you might as well watch it on mute for the pretty colors lol. You can`t watch a deep movie disconnected and enjoy it.
vehy again I believe you are in the minority in wanting the humans to win. o.o; I almost always want the bad guys to win, but in this case I was rooting for the good guys because their characters were much more impressive to me. Laughing at people who offer them weapons of destruction and superficial knowledge is something I can entirely relate to. Tactical missiles? First, there was a scrambler that made their long range equipment not work right in that area. Second, EVERY movie has parts that don`t make sense or contradicts it self. The same is true with EVERY piece of literature and television show. Human error is a part of all media, get used to it. Another thing that didn`t add up was the "cat people" #2 chief being eager to make senseless violence, because that is not the way of their people at all. But, again, that was overlooked because there needed to be a "villain" on both sides to emphasize that there is no such thing as true good and evil, it is all perspective. |
