  Mineral / Mining question

couple of questions

1. Does mineral generation depend on the amount of mining infrastructure on a colony?

2. Does mining ore depend on mining research level?

Thanks,
AH

Serpent, you`re wrong.

To put it very short:
1. No
2. Yes

Why are all these answers so wordy?

No to both.

Mining ore does get affected by your research level. I can stripmine any planet in like 5-10 turns(which means that while exploring it`ll be empty as soon as I need to cluster or plunder it). And I have a research level of 254.

also I`m fairly sure the +10 modifier on a c1 has an effect, it`s just that the mineral generation gets rounded down, so if the 10% is less then 1 it won`t be counted.

hmm... i`m still confused

so terran have +0 mineral generation

according to that formula

25 + (25 x 101 / 10 x 20 / 100 x 0) = 25 minerals a turn

that doesn`t seem right to me :-/

i came up with this formula and i tested it for an a.miner with a c1

minerals per turn = (colony size) * (1 + (0.1 * mining_research)) * (1+(race_mod/100))

so for an a.miner with 0 mining_research with a c1

minerals per turn = 5 * (1+(0.1*0)) * (1+(1000/100)) = 55 per turn...

i checked and the +10 extra mining for a c1 doesn`t seem to apply...

any comments?

The planetary modifier does effect the production of minerals. When I had just a few planets I compared a desert against a balanced and the desert was twice as fast as a 100% modifier suggests.

Ore and mineral generation are 2 separate entities. Mining research level only effects the amount of minerals. It really should be called Mineral Research. You can get mineral generation just by having planets. You can kill off the population and all infrastructure on the colony and still get mineral returns. You build mining infrastructure to get the ORE off the planet. The planetary factor, again, is just for ore.

50 infra takes ore off a planet faster then 10, so yes

FistOfNoRemorse, thank you for clarifying that... i didn`t know planet mining level was referring to the planet modifiers, i thought it was mining infrastructure!

and wingnut, so if you have a higher mining research level, you mine ore faster?

mining infra will increase the rate you mine ore

for a c2 with 101 infra researched

25 + (25 x 101 / 10 x 20 / 100 x 1000) = 50,525 minerals a turn

Cluster Lvl 2 Detail
25 planets clustered together as one colony. Acts as a planetary/colony upgrade and must be researched.
Population growth + 20
Agriculture + 20
Mining + 20 <<< planet mining level

Thanks for answering but question 2 is regarding mining "ore" not "minerals"... so what i`m asking is does a higher mining research level increase the rate at which you gain ore from planets...

And is this formula wrong since mineral generation does not depend on mining infrastructure on planets?

Mineral calculation (GC)
Colony Size (No of planets in Colony) + ( Colony Size x Mining Research Lvl / 10 x Planet mining level / 100 x Racial Modifier)

1. NO it does not, mining infrastaracture on te colony only for digging ore.

2. yes. reaserch in mining infrastracure incrfease mineral generation per turn.
