Ragnarok 2011-01-31 |  | Alternative to idea below |  | This is not my idea, but I feel it deserves a separate thread. Make every cap ship (and not just some ships) no-defence as well as no-retal.
Why? So that ships without no-retal (such as garuda, neutral ships, and other vanilla ships) will be able to do greater damage to spammy ships, particularly in flanking where they are currently useless do to the retal feature in the game.
This simple solution will effectively amount to a significant nerf in spamming and an overall balance gameplay a bit more in favor of stackers instead of spammers. |

Although if you give a ship like pyth no defense you might want to bump its range up a notch. Otherwise I`d think it`d just die constantly. I could be wrong I`m not the best at interpreting changes to ships and their effect on them/ others. |

Ragnarok 99+ day(s) ago | However, remember that even with these changes, the core problem with spamming doesn`t go away though, which is that flanking ships without no-retal will die to any cap ship that DOES have no-retal without the no-defense proviso.
Keep in mind that there are already a LOT of cap ships that have no-defense already incorporated, and they do just FINE. Examples:
Herc, Lictor, G Livid and D Angel
All 4 ships are fine in and of themselves already and all have no-defense. I`m pretty sure that the rest of the cap ships will be just fine with no defense incorporated. It just gives a little bit more of an edge in favor of stackers when things are close. THATS ALL.
The only REAL changes would have to be on starbases in the form of greater resistances to chemical.
One possible fix would be to revamp the NEUTRAL SHIPS so that they are more suitable towards killing UW type ships like Hoko, Kryo, Scorpion, Pyth, etc. All would have access to them. |

OR you could INCREASE the build rate of all ships proportionately along with cap ships. An all around 2x increase in BR in all ships everywhere without even changing the underlying ship would help immensely. It would cause short term chaos, but once everyone got adjusted it would definitely help with stacking too. Higher base PR folks who normally rely on cap ships for survival would suddenly have more incentive to try to incorporate stacking.
If, after you did that, you proportionately made cap ships smaller, then the impact wouldn`t be so bad.

Mazuku 99+ day(s) ago | I`d support an increase in the BR`s of the small ships. since in a sense of realism it should be easier to produce small ships than it is to make your big caps.
In the least it should apply to fighters, corvettes and maybe frigates as in my mind they are your easy to mass produce ships but also die about as easily. Which I think even in their current state they would? As they wouldnt have "No retal" trait but they could come with "No defense" maybe.
The only exceptions to this would be the "artillery" ships such as the P class, Pike?, etc. |

Tell Stephen to sell gc to a more reliable person ? But i am going off topic, I understand where your going with this, we could just reduce the PR of the Caps, including the BUILD rate. And see what that does, but that would also include tweaking every minor wepons to hull. To make it easy, we could just proportionally tweak it, So that destroyers and Caps are on the same page, which would mean, that Spamming caps take longer. But again there are too many people who rely on build rate, and they spamm way to often. I know stacking should be the way *(I am guilty of this also, I am not pretending to be a saint). There would be people willing to leave gc just because of it !. And judging by the amount of players online, i can very well say that if we loose more players, we will be one step closer to death (like i haven`t been saying that since i got here). |

Again, a big reason that spamming caps works at all is because they are capable of killing the flanking ships if they don`t have no-retal.
The only other alternative is to make all the other ships no-retal, including neutral ships. No more "vanilla ships".
But hey, if we want to leave things as they are and be content with the occasional tweaking because we don`t have time to make REAL changes to fix the game, then well I don`t really have a suitable response to that attitude. |
