  boost to collective capturing  

one of the biggest disadvantages to collectives is the small range of ships. i know collectives are supposed to capture ships mainly to boost their fleets, but the current capturing ships available to collectives are not effective enough in combat to capture enough ships

my suggestion is this:
add no retal specials to the h galleon, the r schooner, and the h man-o-war, and increase the range of the h brigantine ship.

oh oh oh I`ve got an idea !
When calculating the top 10 stacks that are allowed to be used in a battle... count all the stacks (from high to low) until 10 of them are of types that the race may build >:D
So if you`ve captured a lot of fat stacks, you may tuck all your self-constructed ships underneath those captured stacks, and have... like... 15 or more (depending on how much you capture / how large you build your own ships up).
It would encourage stacking, encourage Collectives to hold onto as many captured ships as they can, and make spamming pretty darn useless.

It would need a pretty severe time limit or limit to number of ships you could use for a certain time. As a decently active collective would be a tad over powered if they could build a fleet entirely of other races ships.

Actually, yea it would. To be able to build a ship as long as you had it in your fleet would actually be an awesome alternative to what virals use. It would make collectives keep ships in their lower stacks as "blue prints" if they don`t want to immediately use a ship right off the bat for some reason. Maybe being capable of building ships you capture up to 12 hours after you lose it too would be cool.

Keep them collectives actively fighting. :P

wtf would I do with a starbase after capturing it? Even less useful than the worthless stuff I capture already. If you want capturing to mean anything make me able to build anything I`ve captured ten of for as long as it is in my fleet. That would be a cool feature. I`m sure Stephen is crabping himself to get on that project.

never mind the scouts, collectives cant use them, and viral already has some pretty good ones of their own. starbases, however, might be worth something

The biggest problem of the collective is to maintain a high pr. The best ships have low range (exept gal ofcourse) (snow is ok) pinnace, brig, sloop (terrible build ratio, not interesting above 5 mil on fast).
So the best tactic on high pr is to semi-spam (spam, boring) these brilliant short range ships. Adding up the schooner to that list is pretty useless, hull modifiers are crab. You will lose them easially soon enough. may help you out in one specific battle, make you lose in the following :(

Capturing ships is great, the miner lyth is taken easy. But if you have a hundred of those in your fleet your cash reserves will drop extremely fast. And during the resulting attack you`re most likely to lose a decent amount of your small collective ships. Rebuilding them is way to expensive and your left as a sitting duck. Waiting for the same miner you`ve hit to outbuild 3x your pr and waste the rest of your fleet. (destroying the lyths and rebuild is also not fast enough, goes for all other ships exept marauder ships)

A defencive tactic works best for the collective so why use a ship with extreme negative hull modifiers. make em the same way as the low range ships but with higher pr`s, so we can climb more easily.
Maybe then we`re getting to close to the guards?

...but seriously now, Schooner would be a dozen times more helpful if it had 1 more range, bringing it to 10. Its shield weaknesses are certainly disastrous enough to allow for that.

That would be another way to go about it I suppose. I approve of this as well. ^_^
