qwerty360 99+ day(s) ago | ESET nod32 is very well regarded by tech people I have come across if you are paying for AV.
These days the good ones all have very similar virus recognition. The important factor is usually performance (i.e. how long does it take to scan a TB+ of HD space and can you use your pc while it is running a scan)).
Depending on what you are doing running linux and virtual machine`s for various tasks is by far the best AV solution (although a pain to set up and use).
Other points:
use web browsers with ad, flash and javascript blocking
disable the horrible idea that is autorun (hard to do, look it up to do it properly with registry edits, just changing the settings windows shows you in the control panel etc DOESN`T WORK!)
Seperate partitions. A lot of viruses assume everything is on C:\, and so wont do anything nasty to your data if it isnt there. Also this means you can reinstall windows without losing anything when/if something does get through (no security is perfect. If anyone ever tells you they have never been breached 99% of the time it just means they have been breached, but dont know it...)
Backup Backup Backup and Backup again!!!! if it is important there should be atleast 3 copies in sperate locations, and one should probably be on permenant media (e.g. CD/DVD). Make sure the backups work on multiple PC`s so that you can recover the data. |

ArchAng3l 99+ day(s) ago | did not even heard of vipre at all.. even when i`m in IT industry. lol.. ESET Nod32 is the best you can trust. kaspersky is next..
panda and bit defender is good as a online scanner if the virus infect your anti-virus on your comp..
as for spyware, i prefer to use the full suite provided by the same company. so nod32 smart security is the full protection :)
also do download CCleaner. It really clear lot of junk on your comp for all those surfing. |
GradualIncline 99+ day(s) ago | I have Avira on my desktop, the only issue I have with it is that from time to time (hours, if not days apart) it`ll pop up an ad to upgrade to more than the free version of it. Usually it does this when I`m in a game, and either buggers it up, or just irritates me, but the program itself has caught every virus it`s come across, not that I risk my baby on unknown sites that often, usually only when I`m trying links to watch TV shows online, such as Castle or House. |
FlashysDomain 99+ day(s) ago | Working from home, my employer sent the security package I use. The only addition I use is a program called GuardedID to prevent keystroke logging theft. It encrypts at the keyboard so any keystroke malware is made useless. |
Ullr 99+ day(s) ago | What about Malwarebytes? That`s my favorite tool for removing viruses. It`s probably most effective when you buy the fiull version. |

Emsisoft is actually ranked #1 on the ranking list`s i`ve found..
Avira antivir is another one that i use on my brand new computer |
Jammer 99+ day(s) ago | I`ve been using Microsoft Security Essentials for quite some time now, just to test it out. Normally I use Kaspersky.
So far, I haven`t had any problems with it. |
Freelancer 99+ day(s) ago | Anti-virus program, i havent found one i liked yet. Alot of them are to heavy on memory and slow down PC reaction time.
ZoneAlarm firewall i was always generally happy with. However i found a new lighter firewall extremely similar to ZoneAlarm however it ask additional questions whichs makes me feel more secure. By that im talking about DLL injections into operating system programs like svchost.exe or any other microsoft.exe that talks with the Internet or networks. Cant recall the program name. However when you do start using the program its a pain cause you got to approve your main online programs the first few days like crazy and then the next week, after you got that set and down its happy and easy browsing. |
Kaneda 99+ day(s) ago | Use MSE |
VALJA 99+ day(s) ago | personally, i`ve been using TrendMicro`s antivirus since 1995... whether it`s heavy or not, it will depend on personal preferences... i have a system just to play game without any antivirus just to have the extra speed... and i isolate this system frm others to avoid any infection incase this system is infected..
on top of that, i`m using ZoneAlarm for extra protection apart frm Window`s firewall... yeah, it might be redundant but what the heck... lol...
again, IF you have the spare time and knowledge, try each of them and see which one suits you better... but always remember the important rules to avoid any infection and your antivirus just sit happily without working too hard... :) |
OpvsDei 99+ day(s) ago | most of them you posted are very heavy on your operating system. kaspersky just made trouble on my pc, and norton was so heavy i couldnt do anything else.
i just got avast for free right now and i havent had any troubles so far. its very light. nod32 is good too |
HoneyBucket{HH} 99+ day(s) ago | Microsoft Security Essentials.... was just recommended to me by a very credible sources.... so I will try it first.... but if anyone else has any other suggestions I am all head, ears, shoulders, knees, and toes. |
Slavyzz 99+ day(s) ago | Malwarebites, Avast anti-virus? |
