So we all love this game very much. There is no way that anyone would continue playing under the conditions we play unless we loved it.
People have made suggestions to Big Stevie to promote GC with advertisements and so forth. He seems to lack the budget and motivation. So like many problems with this game, it seems this one needs to be solved by the players.
I think that we should take it on ourselves as a project to promote this game in any way that we can.
Everyone should suggest it to their RL friends and try to get them involved if it is a person you might be interested.
Also, I was thinking that some of our better, creative writers should write up an intriguing advertisement or some sort of short description of the game, that will incite the type of people that would enjoy a game such as GC. Nothing to fancy, just catchy, just enough to get people to try it out.
Then we could all post this short article on our Myspace, Facebook and any other form of networking site that is used. We could post it up once a week or so, just randomly here and there. Who knows what could come of it. Even if it got a few new, decent players a week it would be better than nothing.
And if anyone has access to any other type of advertising, please try to utilize it to help us get some new activity.
The first person that came to my mind to help write this ad was SD as I know he is a very impressive, creative writer. I can write pretty well, I am just not terribly creative, but I would be more than happy to help edit or co-author with someone creative.
Thoughts and\or suggestions? Any volunteers for writers? |

99+ day(s) ago | i found GC on ads back in 2004 been stuck ever since. i think its more on the ads and prize money to lure players thats why UC is much popular now, i havnt played UC though so i cant comment of the difference. but i found UC hard to catch up with vets than in GC. |

99+ day(s) ago | So it was my friends who actually found this game. They probably played for two weeks, several a few more. But all of them invariably quit. This was 5 years ago. They definitely view me still playing this as some sort of addiction and have long since accepted the fact that every so often I will look at them and say "hey have you thought about starting to play GC?" I`ve helped a few set up empires but they just lose interest so fast. I almost envy them, I`m like an addict but i can`t get anyone else addicted!
The way I see it an online purely text based game which if you want to excel involves a firm understanding of most aspects of the game, coordinated planning, and a certain level of math skills, will really only attract a certain type of person. And then only a few of those types of people will stick around to invest time into it. Eventually you have to accept that hardcore GC`ers are a rarity.
UC has a larger player base than GC. Why?
Certain aspects of the game play are rather cushy (in my opinion of course)
And they have ads. |

AM I think you`re missing the point. This thread is about what we as players can and should do to promote GC... not about what stephen should do. Good idea though, you should mention it to him. |

99+ day(s) ago | Like so much of what I`m supposed to do for GC (you`d probably get a little irritated with me if you knew just WHAT I`m supposed to be doing that I haven`t, but I assure you it`s because of university and work... not that that is a good excuse for failing to write collective missions... oops, did I say that out loud? ;)) it`s tough to find TIME to do stuff. Even when I`m actually playing GC, it`s only when I`m multi-tasking.

But yeah if you can`t bare the thought of admitting you play to people you actually know... there are plenty of online forums we can advertise in. Plus I`m sure some people have other ideas as to how we can spread the word.
