The following people deserve a lot of our respect and appreciation for everything they have done to keep UC and GC alive despite other goings on behind the scenes. They have made a huge contribution to UC and GC while they have been staff in there own time without getting anywhere near the thanks they deserve.

Thank you for everything you have done. I fully understand why you are standing down as staff and am seriously considering following you.
I hope we will keep in touch and wish you good luck in future endevors. You are great people who I have been blessed to know and count as friends.

99+ day(s) ago | Being one of the old players I know what has happened to the game and I actually specifically stated what was going to happen back in 2004 just before I quit, unfortunately most of it did happen and is still happening. No, I`m not going to rehash it all. Why? Because I no longer care, Stephen dug his own hole and is still digging. Early in this game the numbers of players increased by word of mouth, players came and went but there were always new players coming in because their friends told them about it. This no longer happens and the few old players still around know why and when it started happening. I`ll give you a hint, at one time there were many ways to be successful at this game those ways are no longer allowed. UC is especially bad about this. A politically correct game now exists, your only allowed to play one way and any other is not allowed. You either grow or die and death by paralysis is merely a slower way to go. |

they would have been blacklisted for botting cheating or other such unfair methods of play
they would have been virals who wanted the D and G class perhaps. alot of effort went into this but yes to be expected people of the past would quit over such.
they could be new or old players who needed black market because 1-10 old empires are stashing 90% of it for no reason at all taking advantage of that silly mineral cap.
but before Maraudian was admin GC used to have 300-400 , its been dropping dropping and dropping since 04 , and now its a stable 70 and has been for months , those 70 average were all monitored pretty well for abusive cheating etc too.
in the time GC went from 100 to 70 ( a year or so ), UC has gone from like 300-500 to 100-150.
UC is now dying quicker than GC ever has, while GC has been pretty stable for a long time.
long story short although as proven maraudian would ofc have resulted in alot of empires leaving quiting or being blacklisted ( alot of 03-04`s have been punished since he became admin )
the decline in players has been happening since 04 ( back when peaks nearly hit 400 on gc ).
Maraudian became admin when it was around 100-120 and still dropping.
Maraudian got access to ship edit at around 70-80 average still dropping.
Average online became stable at 70 and has stayed so for a long time now. ( even after his baised work and forced balancings etc etc ) |

juju, elu and wicca were UC staff, so you wouldn`t have seen them much on GC...
Also the loss of players while maraudian was admin was no different to the loss before that. If anything it was significantly slower, partly because the people remaining are generally the people who wont quit, and partly because maraudian made changes that kept the game interesting and new for existing players.
There are always some people who have problems with the admins and there always has been. The reduction in the number of players has however made these disagreements far more obvious...
There appears to now be maybe 300 vaguely active accounts on gc (and that is a count of accounts, not players (doesnt factor in for players on multiple servers)... iirc there were times in the past (3 to 5 years ago now) when that many people would have been online almost all of the time.
If my memory is correct most of these people were involved in getting the staff the powers to make changes to ships, as a lot of players were objecting to the lack of any updates, and maraudian was the driving force behind trying to rebalance some of the ships on GC and make adjustments to keep the players interested.
All of the admins spend a significant amount of time behind the scenes doing things, on top of work/uni, normally in the middle of the night (ok almost always in the middle of the night. |

The decline happened because of stephen, mostly not cause of Maraudian. Sure, say what, 5 players left because they think he had personal bias?
Certainly isn`t the reason for a more than half reduction in total players =p. |

Let`s start my behindysis(which is not flaming, I will just put some numbers and statistics).
1) Juju, Wiccawillow, Elutheria - no offence, but I barely ever saw you on forums or discussions about updates and what not. I doubt the positive influence is that great.
2) Maraudian - Before he came there were 120-150 active people playing(when I started), now with all his updates there are about 60-70. That is a big drop. He single handedly made a lot of people quit with his biased or personal attitude at times. On the other hand, he did a lot for the updates and for the game as updates and events, like it or not(some things some people liked, some not, but it is normal). At least events and updates were existent. So nobody knows what it would be without him.
3) BW - he was very active but maybe(I haven`t really followed since he has more powers but still that`s the general impression) a little too hasty in his decisions at times.
But anyway I might be mistaken, there can be work behind the scenes I am not seeing and I can not judge. |
