Requiem 2008-09-08 | | Cookies! (:.;) Yum... | | Okay i`ve been giving it a lot of thought lately... i`m a big fan of GC, been playing on and off whenever and wherever i have, or can get, the time to do so.
But lately even a hardcore fan like me has been finding it a little routine and B-O-R-boring... harsh words but true.
GC does indeed have it`s charms, but sooner or later every player will surely feel the same sinking feeling i get when i play GC wayy too often: "WHAT AM I DOING HERE???" and "I NEED TO USE THE TOILET."
But we don`t really care about the second one...
Now, why is it that i sometimes feel i am wastin my time on GC? I mean, i LIKE gc! It`s like saying that you like Cookies (yum) but you find eating Cookies a waste of time; DOES that make sense? NO! So why is it i can say that i love GC but i find playing GC boring?
After spending about 12 seconds thinking about the answer i have found it: I AM IN DENIAL.
I just can no longer tell myself that GC is the great awesome game i kept telling myself it was.
So in a bid to save my failing interest in GC, i`ve come up with the one "ultimate solution" that, although would make me FEEL better by posting it here, i know will NEVER change anything thanks to darling Stephen. Love you hun.
So here we go... Why is it that a great game like GC just can`t keep it`s players, but lame-o games like runescape and maple can? Simple: STORYLINE and QUESTS. No i don`t mean the excuse of quests they call "missions" that every race has access to, i`m talking about real quests, updated every week. With a SOLID STORYLINE that keeps players interested and gives them MORE REASONS to play rather than just to "get more planets" and "rape more newbies". If no one`s free to come up with the storylines and stuff, I VOLUNTEER to do so FREE of charge. But i suck so yeah you get wat you pay for. (kiddin)
So please, if cookies can make me love em forever and ever, i really don`t see why GC can`t... do you Stephen? |

UberPansy 99+ day(s) ago | Well then if that is the case I would argue for removing it from the game! I feel that something that is not enjoyable/not especially helpful just gets in the way of a good game experience.
PS: nice to see you taking an active interest in these forms loof, your veteran input is welcomed ;) |
EvilLoof 99+ day(s) ago | "feel like you really accomplished something cool" but you really haven`t. Seriously if you wanna reward anything it should be fighting, uw, missions something not researching ! |
UberPansy 99+ day(s) ago | Perhaps you are right Loof, those examples I gave were just random ones I`m sure there are much better ideas.
My basic thought was just that there needs to be a tangible visible reward for the player completing each research level. It`s a pain in the rump and you want to feel like you really accomplished something cool with each level completed. Even something minor like a sound effect (jingling change) or a zoom-in effect on a calculation of how much more money you will now make per turn l would go a long way towards achieving this goal imo. |
DraconianParadise 99+ day(s) ago | Also didn;t the storylines etc used to happy alot on sfcommunity, thats something that i feel was rly good earlier on, also the good ole mass IRC chat days =-)
I.E providing something, which EVERYONE can join and easily access |
DraconianParadise 99+ day(s) ago | I think the reward for smacking someone, should be a Kodak moment of their face |
bobbysindustrialpat 99+ day(s) ago | Requiem - nice idea you`re a legend BUT first tell me who is this rarehunter guy? |
EvilLoof 99+ day(s) ago | If you went % up in land you could make some sick empires by keeping research low at first, so if there was rewards for research which i cant see why there should be it should be a set amount of land. But seriously ditch rewarding people for researching cmon. |
EvilLoof 99+ day(s) ago | people at 255 infra now will probably disagree but yes I`m all for that, never go above 100 anyway |
EnderWiggin 99+ day(s) ago | Arch i was simply voicing my opinion. For the record I like the idea of a lower research level cap as well... 100 would be good. |
Knossos 99+ day(s) ago | Those are some great ideas Uberpansy. 255 is pretty high. |
UberPansy 99+ day(s) ago | Sorry for triggering the filter... I don`t think that`s a bad word o.o |
UberPansy 99+ day(s) ago | Research is hopelessly broken atm, as far as being an utterly bbehind boring activity.
I think what would really help would be to greatly reduce the ceiling on research levels. 255 is utterly preposterous. Put the emphasis on fighting, not mindless clicking. Tweak the turns required and set a more reasonable cap, certainly no greater than 100. Also, it would really help if you got a reward for every 5 - 10 levels of research completed... perhaps a lump sum of cash if you were reesarching commerce or more land on your planets if you are a taxer. |
Archaeoptyrex 99+ day(s) ago | well that`s why the non-rt based servers are more fun ...
not so much computer-staring |
PoisonousCandyCane 99+ day(s) ago | Exploring for a 1k barren: a paid account + 1 - 200 turns
Researching a new level: 750 - 2500 turns
10 stacking to 10 mil PR: 1000 - 3000 turns
Exploring a 20k - 25k C2: Up to weeks of turns
All that is time sitting in front of the comp waiting for turns to regenerate and if everyone can take missions and gain more turns as prizes it wouldn`t give anyone really more advantage over another person, but encourage newbies to learn to play and vet`s to not waste so much time starting an empire they easily know how to create...... |
PoisonousCandyCane 99+ day(s) ago | I think Requiem is talking about having more to the game than fighting, researching, and exploring for planets. Quests that can be failed with consequences and quests that can award you with prizes.
I personally find it boring when i start a new empire because of alll the research to get to that money making point. spending so much time researching is boooring! If i could go on a mission that involves skill, maybe mouse speed, fighting, exploring etc that cane save me TIME would be awesome! Awarded turns and/or research levels are awesome prizes.... |
EvilLoof 99+ day(s) ago | the meter starts at 50/50 of course |
EvilLoof 99+ day(s) ago | yah fed war meter::
You win an attack from double pr +1%
You win an attack from normal range +2%
You win an attack from sub pr +3%
(overpowered counters give you 3 planets)
War is won when the bar been pushed to 100%
Loosing fed lose either 50% resources or to be mean 4-5 top colonies or maybe even some research 5-10 lvl`s anyways we never got to an agreement on that really.
Every war declared is mutual, so if you declare war they have bonus on you too(too unfair for a fed that get ten wars declared on it and can only use bonus on one, but able to win/lose 10 wars)
That would be a major update, and a good one. |
archaeoptyrex 99+ day(s) ago | Ender, there were *many* good ideas about fed wars:
but nothing was ever done |
EnderWiggin 99+ day(s) ago | oh wow, I like the idea of being able to win and lose fed wars... |
Zenith 99+ day(s) ago | I think perhaps if stephen took an active interest in this game, and listened to players` suggestions and acted upon them, this game would be much better. It`s a little stagnant right now, though much better than before when there were 0 ship updates. However, ship updates is only the first step. As Loof said, gameplay changes like actually winning fed wars or viral ship upkeep fix would be extraordinarily welcome here.
No seriously, if those were fixed, everyone would be applauding stephen. |
