  Chances in planet exploration

I`ve noticed that when I explore for planets, sometimes I can get nothing but Gas/Marshy/Forest with hardly any land on them for hours. Then sometimes I would get a string of high-land planets. Once I got 4 barrens at over 600 land each within minutes of each other.

I`m just wondering, has anybody spotted trends in exploring? Are the planets you get completely random, or are you more likely to get particular types of planets at certain times of the day, or when you have a certain number of colonies, etc etc?

I`m with Blad, I don`t think it`s completely random..As well, definetly get a paid if you can. You can explore a 23k c2 in under a day with a paid account.

try to explore with 1 exploration per turn... even though you have to build thousand of V2s or whichever scout ship you`re using... and yes... it`s better still to have +ve income during exploration... :)

I spent the first 2 years playing this game only exploring (boring I know!) and here`s what I learned from my experiences.

First of all, luck artifacts do NOT affect exploration. Secondly there are times that are better for exploration than others. Stephen has always claimed that it has nothing to do with the time or anything, but that`s not been my experience. The best times to explore are as follows...

Directly after the twice daily server refreshes (which are at 8am and 8pm server time).
4-6pm EST (not sure what that translates into server time).
2-4am EST (again not sure of server time).

Now you`re not guaranteed to only find the largest planets at those times, I just find more larger planets during those times, as well as more special class planets (U. Ferts, Larges, etc.) I haven`t done much exploring since the introduction of X. and S. class planets so I don`t know how they fit in.

If you really want to maximize your planet size when exploring, get a paid account. You get a size bonus as well as an increased chance of finding good stuff.

random isn`t the word i`d use....the server has a sick sence of humor always has...it`s got a cruel personality the anti-stephen reprogramed it like that....you`d be wise not to upset the balance.

it takes a lot of ice cream tributes to summon the real stephens benevolent code to bring about something of worth

Ah... what a shame, thought maybe I was onto something there :(

Spending hour after hour clicking `explore` and `plunder` is mind-numbing...

planet generation IS random although the server can blip and create pairs of planets or even triplets occasionally.

It`s generally 100% completely random, I imagine luck factors in game (there are thousands, don`t ask me em all, find out =p) might affect it slightly, but it`s random. If you notice a lot at one time of day, record that time and try it again the next day, if it keeps holding up, well keep exploring then =)

I`m thinking of recording all the planets I explore and drawing a graph to see if I can spot anything... this will have to wait till my exams are over though... and by then I`d probably be too busy playing to care :D

Haven`t spotted any trend , unless you mean 3 X.Tream Gas/Barren/Ocean all under 100 land. All in one day.

LOL ! Crying would get my soup watered down too much.
