  past and present?

I thought it would be a good idea to see your thoughts on what has kept you playing this game, for those of you who have played for at least a year anyway and have dealt with wanting to put down the crack but are unable to do so.

what has drawn you to this game that everyone seems to say is on the way out, and what keeps you here now?

reply`s from vets are most welcome heren as well as old friends

Same reason I originally found the game... except that StarCraft is STILL not getting old. *Stabs Angst repeatedly with a psi blade*

Alright, I`m here for the other players too. I`m here to attack them!

I think it`s fun to play and i like the concept. I originally found the game because i was looking for a free web browser based game. I found this.
I was looking for a game to remind me of starcraft because i was so good at that game but it was getting old.

This game is boring sometimes, yes, but so are most all games especially once they are played a lot. So just commit to being a really good empire and that`s what keeps people around. I need the stress of losing a lot of time and effort if i suck. If i play like a fool then i lose like a fool as well.

This game IS hard! There is a lot to learn and many aspects to it so that`s basically what i like about it.

I stay also for the players who put spaces between sentences making it simple to read :P

I basically don`t agree with what ANYONE has said. I mean i like the technicality of the game and i appreciate the time it took to learn how to be rael good at this game too. I like ship building the stress that i feel when im low on borders. I think its a great concept game that, YES, has plenty of room for improvement! I think the "vets" make this game BORE. It`s the newbies and only a few vets that come out and make this game active. I have seen a lot more new players come than vets leave actually. The problem is getting the newbies GOOD enough to fight against vets... but then they arn`t newbies anymore :) I dunno i work a lot and i like how convenient it is to play this game anywhere there is internet. that is great. Also, its FREE. I have a paid account and it is worth it to me. So what do you all think of THAT

wow, scary thought that the only thing holding this game up IS the vets and the strong friendships they have with the other players, huh imagine if your job hung by that thread every day =(

Basically... if enough vets leave, we will almost all leave, ahahahahaha, as we are mostly here for our friends. ^^;

good friends would be enough for me to continue playing if rl didnt always get in the way =(

not-smart reality why cant we all just live in a fantasy land where cookies fall from the sky, we all make as much per turn as BW, and rarehunter is a legendary waarior who has redifined this game as we know it =)

Yea I get really bored sometimes like people have mentioned but it`s always a thrill when you put a nice stack together and someone fails on it and gives you free dp =) Of course I love me a good offensive win too =)

Being a fed leader doesn`t hurt either :p

certain people have kept me here over the years, some come and go and may come back again while others are always around. the people make the game, they make the story and they make the history. letting go or leaving for to long would be like leaving all your friends in rl for a year. you come to miss the day to day events and drama and when you get back you may hear stories but there`s somethings you`ll never know or can`t understand unless you were there...and i don`t like missing out. also if i quit it would mean another person gone...and while my existance on this game is frivolous the absence of one more player is never a good thing. there`s been to many "one more player" gone in the past few years

The only reason i still play is the friends(mostly my fed members in Rabies)

I dont generally enjoy the game that much anymore except when fighting uws as that is the only time it really gets active here anymore

Even when we DID always have plenty of applicants, I`ve always been one for inviting people. But that may very well be just a habit bred in the bygone era of Anaboliking. *Shrugs*

i actually promote letting newer players into higher feds, good way to get someone addicted and help em learn how to play.
Phoenix guards in Normal server for ex. is always open to new players. and we have had some very good newer players join that have made many advancements.

That is where part of your speculation is off ragnarok ... most top feds are full, however they are most likely invite only types because everyone wants to be in a top fed.

An Old Example would be the Devils of Discordia, Defiance of the Void, and the ExecutionersOfEden.

Now im sure other feds on other servers hold the same respect. Now sure if there isnt anyone to invite they accept some newb empires hoping to train them into an active and fight worthy individiual, but thats from just what some have tried to establish as well.

Oh, and I stick around because of the people and the distant dream of doing a collective UW someday. Maybe we should all let each other do UWs and then exit the game. =/

You know GC is dead when even the top fed only gets 4 or 5 people and they`re all folks younger than 2 weeks old that go inactive a couple days after they join. I imagine in its hayday top feds actually got like 2 dozen folks on the waiting list at any given time.
That, and the fact that new feds don`t pop up that often on turn based servers that much anymore.

Nowadays you`re lucky if you can recruit a new player and keep him active for longer than a month. Never mind training him on msn on how to find and hold more than a few clusters. =/

I honestly wonder at times why I still play. I`m yet to come up with a good reason, but I`ll let you all know. =P
