when GC is offically dead, not if, but when, is stephen going to give up the code fo GC?
honestly, if you clearly dont care about this game, just shut if down and sell it, insted of letting it die a slow painful angonizing death with a piece of rubber tubbing and a pair of safty cutters.
theres still money to be made, and more money to be made if updates are on time and advertisements are used properly, this could be something greater and its sad to see the game fall apart.

99+ day(s) ago | Oh, and the first enhancement I would make would be to let players design their own ships. Everyone gets a small common and race-specific set of ships, but then you get "design" points.
Larger chassis use up more design points so it`s the players choice - one jug could use as many points as three different destroyers. Of course things like higher range, more weapons and shields, lower upkeep, no retaliation also take up more design points. If someone puts most of their points into a small set of large ships, they reduce their flexibility and make their stacks more predictable.
It`s only a crudely thought out concept right now, but it would certainly introduce a much needed variability into the game. |

99+ day(s) ago | Technically, It would be super easy - 90% is probably just classic web/database interaction with a little bit of math thrown in here and there. There is; however, quite a volume of work that would need to be done.
The most challenging part from a technical perspective is making the "Ranking near me" work - that page has to be extremely responsive to player`s changing PRs while they build as others sit there going previous/next, previous/next... Not that it can`t be done, but it`s the one part of the site that would have to be well thought out.
Another thing is the forum and chat - those are the types of things that few would want to spend time coding, but they are a critical part of any online game. Of course, one could probably buy the functionality, but who would want to spend the money...
As with most games, the challenging part is balance, not coding. Having multiple races with different economic and military capabilities to support different styles of playing, but having them balanced such that no one race has a significant advantage over the others - the subject of many threads on this forum...
I`d do it if I didn`t already two jobs that payed me good money to code all day (and night). |

No one has taken the time to actually do it though... actually i take that back, i think i remember one person coding old UC, but im a little hazy on that. |

99+ day(s) ago | GC will be dead when you type in the URL and it will no longer load, and you get a big message on the main page saying "thanks for playing" followed by long explanation of why he`s shutting it down. Most likely he will give a few months notice. |
