One must ask around a bit and dig through some of the documentation to discover which Marauder ships are of any use in defence. The descriptions of some ships clearly state that they cannot fire on defence while others state they can. Then others do not say anything at all.
The digging and asking I have done reveals that only the Shark and Piranha can fire in defence. Many of the Marauder ships lack any description at all and seem like any other ship. Additionally when one uses the battle calculator it reveals that the ships that cannot fire in defence do have some defence capability. I have to assume that they use their ramming ability to inflict damage but their guns do not fire. If my assumption about these ships is correct then the statement that they cannot fire unless they are moving is not logical because to ram they have to move.
I think we really need some clear descriptions on the building page for each ship. It should state what they can and can not do. |

99+ day(s) ago | I think it`d be more correct to say that most old power-gamers were banned. I mean, there have been quite a handful of us who stayed around a long time, who never cared much about reaching the top of the rankings and who were never suspected of anything.
But then, that might just be because we`re too smart to get caught, hehehe. |

99+ day(s) ago | If it was only about the description it`d be ok, I think most people can figure out that these are only here to provide some kind of background and don`t matter that much. But seriously, if you ever get Stephen to go something, tell him to remove all these ridiculously outdated guides from the manual.
Some extracts from the Marauder Guide by Danny (anyone still alive remembers who he was?) :
"Pyth has only a range of 1"
"Eels have good long range attack"
" the Barracuda has only a range of 4"
Of course the strategies describe are mostly worthless since the ships they were base on changed completely. How are new players (assuming there are any) supposed to learn how to play correctly with these guides ?
area51 used to be a guard sitting at the top of RT during months with some insane amount of planets (somewhere above 900), until it was discovered he was in fact getting borders from arranged battles. I think his fedmates (the old Bastard Clan crew) were quite ashamed of his actions.

To answer your qn though - the description just reflects the fact that maru ships generally die when defending. Look in the ship description for `This ship can`t return fire if attacked` or `Ships attacked by this ship cannot return fire` to see if a particular ship has a special attack characteristic
They just refer to the attack and defend phase of the battle, so when your empire is attacked the `no defense` ships still get an attack phase, they just don`t do the 50% damage part when they are attacked...

most old players have been banned , in 4+ year or w/e temptation etc ets you and you get caught, but i wasnt staff at the times CC and A51 got banned if they were so cant really state anything on it , but i doubt this is the original A51 as he wouldnt post the likes of this question ( no offence intended to the question or poster )

99+ day(s) ago | Well if I knew what I was doing I would not read the description 420 renegade. However since this is the first time I have played the Marauder race, I found the ships to be a bit confusing. That statement alone should answer the question asked about the 03 Area51. No I am not.
I realize also that this is not something that can be done overnight but I think it should be done for those of us that just started.
collective dont even have desc on ships , or i dont recall them having it since they were added when ste was lazy and didnt care for gc and just did it to shut us up
same with other ships from other races , having a desc is misleading anyhow , learn to describe ships on your own , then your a real genious in the ship / stacking / combat area and can do anything without even thinking 5 seconds on it
