  User Review: Plunder Maru  

I`ve played plunder maru on rt for the last 24 hrs and although it is actually a feasible income path since the update, it is still much more difficult than any other reasonable income.

After attacking NPC all day ranging from 100Kpr to 5millpr, I have 28bill. I bought approximately 5bill total of food, minerals, and ore, and another 5bill on upkeep. I lucked out right off the bat and snagged 3 fully populated ularge and plundered them for 15 bill total. So, a little less than half of my total wages came from one attack. A very average c2 is about 6,500 land and takes around 300 turns to make. With lvl 30 housing, I make about 1bill plundering it, so my income is about 3mill/turn.

At income lvl 60 I would make ~ 6mill/turn, 120 ~ 12mill/turn, 240 ~ 24mill/turn. It is a decent income for marauder. One issue is that I could never make a truly monster empire. If I came across a massive cluster, it would be a one time cash reward, and I would be back to clustering up marshies and gasses immediately after. My housing research, luck, and constant fighting are the only factors to income. Which brings me to the most difficult aspect:

I have to fight to make income. All other races make their income passively as they go about doing other things. I guess I could log in once a day and spend an hour making a c2, plunder it and then sit at base pr researching, but then my income drops to almost nothing. If I want to earn decent money, I would be fighting all day, and fighting is a very different activity than clicking a research button every 10 mins. I am unable to multitask on my computer while building fleets and clustering planets.

There are many other factors that make it hard, but it is possible. It is definitely a path for very hardcore players

An admin would me more than happy to create a C.5 for you, they tweak it to where it has 254 planets but it is functional

Well, I collected enough planets for a C5, but seeing as that isn`t a functioning option currently, I got bored of not making any money in a per-turn sense, and so plundered those 300 planets I had. I may recollect them all at some point, but wins need hunting. But in terms of money, plunder lyfe may not make you be able to play above 50mil PR (or not at my infra level - 83), but it`s certainly a viable way of playing below 20 mil PR. These were my "goodies" (I`m not picky in what I cluster, it`s all good to eat):

Without the NPC I think the server could just about support one plunder empire. But you`d be wracking up one heck of a counter list for yourself.

I appreciate the info Wingnut. I used to love playing marauder, i think if the server was healthier maybe this plunder style can be effective.

I think the best possible way to go here is something similar to what Ive seen on the forum before - get cash from ships killed as well

Building up high for a win is pointless when all youre plundering is planets. Down low where people are inactive you are likely to get a lot more inactive decent sized borders, and it costs way less to farm planets. The higher you go, the m,ore money youre spending on the same sort of planets. Its just not worth building up.

If you mde additional income off ship wreckage, you could feasibly build up to high power and get larger cashflows smashing into larger fleets.

Sorry Kraven - I re-read my message about four times before clicking post as I came across sounding aggressive - it wasn`t my intention! If you were to remove my middle paragraph, and re-focus it`s attention as a thought spoken out loud rather than as a direct reply to your post, it makes a little more sense and does perhaps seem less aggressive on my behalf.

I`m just glad you`re playing Maru as a plunder race - saves me having to give them a try quite yet ;)

Assassin: I am truly not complaining here. I actually think it is a fine income path and am going to keep at it. It fits in well with my style of play. I tend to binge on rt here and there, fight like crazy then plunder everything, sit in np for a year, then restart. Mineral miner is a favorite because I can make a huge empire very fast. I think plunder maru/collective is good for this style of play as well. Get up and running fast, run rampant over the ranks, then sit in np. It is just not ideal for a daily player who likes to plug away and eventually have a monster empire. It is much more difficult and takes a lot more attention. Some people might think that difficulty is fun and challenging, and for others it would be a horrible fit.

I`ve been plunder collective from before the updated income modifier. It was a feasible income then. I just couldn`t hunt very high and had to take planets off other empires at their base powers.

Nearly 40 days into it, sure I have 30 levels less infrastructure research than I did as an A.Miner, but I also have about 700 more wins.

Why must every race have similar things to do? Why not accept that as a plunder empire you have to fight to make money and make any point in playing? If you don`t wish to fight all the time, then a different approach is one to take.

It must also be mentioned that I do make 2 mil per turn through tax as well. Not sure that`s an option for Maru?

I also have a spaz for a homeworld. You know, in case I get really bored...

From what I`ve seen so far, a 300% increase from current plunder rates might work out better

Instead of plundering,how about population sacrifice to the Kalzul. Kills all pop but 10 on cluster. All others are killed and the plunder modifier is applied. That would allow you to keep the cluster.

1 turn plunder

so for every 10 turns you used to use attacking and making the plunder (income) you could now invest 8 turns into infra or digging aswell as attacking and plundering at the same time, thus making progress while attacking ??
