  Market - I wonder

I`ve heard a few state that they store their turn based earnings as minerals, so therefore buying up as many and all minerals as they can.

Some do this to stay off the richest empire listing, some do this so that they can feel they`re not wasting money once they max out their bank.
There are many reasons people do this.

What I`m wondering is, ok, so occasionally there have been no minerals, which effects any new players who come along because they`re unable to buy them.

What if there were two markets ? Like the real main one and a "shadow" market.

The main market being for all players, the "shadow" version for players over a certain pr with a certain income.

The shadow market could maybe allow postings at double or triple the cost from the admin bot, at perhaps the same time as a artifact dig time, since that currently is the most active point on the server, and then one time directly 12 hours opposite that.

The catch being that one these once bought can`t be resold, or if they can be resold, only at the maximum price of $1,000, which means anyone buying up the shadow market instantly makes a loss.

I know its a little vague and crazy and probably pretty much everyone would hate it, but it would be interesting.

dineros work in the opposite direction to get people out of debt too, the same one which takes it off the postiive cash people, actually adds it to the negative ones in serious debt, though there aren`t probably any of those around much lately, since its so simple to make cash now once you restart.

OR change the rich list calculation to include minerals, cg`s food ore and minerals. Companies have to report that sort of thing so our empires can as well. Then their is no point hiding money in market trade-able goods.

As an example: I`ve got 2 million ore on GC/RT (I mined it myself <_<)

There`s zero incentive for me to sell it today. If there wasn`t a market cap I would probably sell it. People could either buy it, or not, or undercut me. The Ore market currentlly never goes below 10k per unit, so there`s no incentive for me to sell it today unless I need cash today.

This may be slightly off topic. It`s related to the market, and my favourite solution to stopping mineral shortages. This is just my opinion, I don`t have an economics degree.

Right now minerals are a non-issue from a gaming perspective unless they run out. No one cares if ships costs one type or another type because all minerals sell for roughly 800-1k each. People only care when stocks sell out completely. In reality there should be a strong feedback loop between production, fighting and the market.

My favourite solution: Remove per-product price caps. This would cause:

1) Prices would go up temporarily
2) Minerals would differentiate themselves over time by usage patterns
3) People would mine more
4) People would focus mining efforts on most needed/expensive minerals
5) People would stop using minerals as asset storage (because market would be more volatile)
6) Market would never go completely empty

But, you say "I`m scared people would manipulate the market to artificially inflate market prices!!!!"?

This can be a big problem. But, people are already manipulating the market. Per-product price caps don`t work! IMHO a better solution is time-based transaction limits. Allow people to buy at most 100 billion credits worth of assets per day (OR some similar figure).

Other ideas to think about are (we can discuss if interested) : dampened dynamic market limits, holding costs, size based storage limits, size based transaction limits (size based = storage per land)

Id say best limit to the newb friendly market would be infra research

once over level x, access to a newb friendly market disappears and changes over to regular market

I would even say +50% or +100%...

Or have an entirely separate market with unlimited materials at a ~20% premium.

Food sitting at around 18-20
Ore at 12,000
RM at 2
CG`s at 5
Minerals at 1,200

Yes. I like this. And black market ore? O.O I want to do what VALJA did that one time, and max out everything.

most peeps buy the matket empty to keep their cash reserve to an minimum.
Why they do that is obvious. they dont want to get major dinero`d witch infect their cash drop down with 3% per dinero or even more if they use major dinero.

Loose those dinero`s and the market will get full as peeps only will buy what they need:)

There has been talk for years about the "shadow" market as you call it ;) But now, with recent turn of events, this may soon become a reality.
