During his time searching for the Marauder fleet, Victor had found a handful of worlds to taint with his virus. The various planets were bustling with Terrans, an excellent source of new hosts for the parasitic Viral race. Having bolstered his ranks, Victor would easily be able to take on the Marauder forces.
It was imperative that Victor find the Marauders before engaging the Terrans again. He had beaten the Terrans once, but next time would be different. The Terrans would not come unprepared for the next encounter; of this Victor was sure. In order to defeat the Terrans, Victor was going to need to incorporate some of the Marauder technology into his own. He had used this strategy to infect and capture Terran ships during the last battle. From these he had been quick to reverse engineer the photon class Thor destroyers that offered such effective long-range bombardment capability.
It had been a while since the Voice had spoken to Victor. He was just contemplating this absence when suddenly he began receiving the familiar migraines to which he had begun to grow accustomed by now.
“Victor.”
“Yes, master? I have been awaiting your presence.”
“Victor, I am always present. Do not forget this.”
“My apologies, master. What is it you would have me carry out for you?”
“I have a new task for you, Victor. After you destroy the Marauder fleet and secure a strong position in your current system, I want you to invade the Guardians’ home system of Neo Sanctis. The system is in the far corner of the next Sector. The Guardians hold the power to ending our growing horde. See to it that this threat is eliminated.” |

Exule 99+ day(s) ago | “But Master, are the Guardians not the stuff of myth and legend?”
“They are as real as you and me, Victor. They have the power to end us. Destroy them.”
“Yes, master. I shall leave none in my wake.”
This news was troubling. Victor felt uncertain for the first time since becoming a Viral. In his past life as a Terran he had heard many stories of the Marauder-Guardian Wars and the devastation wrecked on both races. According to legend, the Guardians had unleashed a last-ditch Ultimate Weapon upon the Marauders, changing them into the Dark Marauders and banishing them to the yet undiscovered Dark Galaxy. The Guardians themselves had paid a high price, their bodies turned into whirling clouds of energy. Many Guardians died, yet somehow some of them managed to survive and live on in this new form.
Those terrible stories also told of the magnificent technology possessed by the Guardians. Their ships were second in grandeur only to those of the fabled race of Kal Zul, the Ancients who wielded unimaginable power and dominated the galaxy until their mysterious disappearance several thousand years ago. It is even said that the Guardians possess some remnant technology left behind by the mysterious Kal Zul.
If these stories were true, the goliath sized Guardian ships would be formidable opponents. The Voice seemed to sense Victor’s troubled line of thought through their mind-bond. |
Exule 99+ day(s) ago | “Victor, do not fret over the stories of your youth. The fleets of Guardian race will be no match for our Viral horde. The threat comes from their ancient Kal Zul artifacts. However, you will have the upper hand in this coming conflict. The enemy will not be suspecting an attack at the heart of their empire. The Guardians have been undisturbed by other races until now. Peace has made them grow soft and vulnerable.”
“And what is to prevent them from activating the Kal Zul artifacts?”
“The Guardians still bear the scars of their past, Victor. They will be hesitant to activate the Kal Zul artifacts again. We shall strike them swiftly and mercilessly, allotting no chance for retaliation.”
“Yes, of course, master. You are correct, as always. Forgive me for questioning your judgement. I will defeat the Guardians and our hordes shall consume their worlds.”
As Victor was finishing his discussion with the Voice, his attention was drawn to one of the Kohoutek scout vessels. Through his underling, he saw what appeared to be the form of a Marauder Piranha class frigate. The Marauders were close by… |
