He wakes slowly, fighting the return of awareness. His dreams were pleasant, but have finally given way to reality once more. Long has he been in slumber, long enough to be forgotten by some, and remembered as myth and legend by others. As his eyelids creak open, and breath returns to his body, dust is disturbed and begins to create a fog about him. The first exhale removes dust from the lungs and causes a cloud to form above him, fogging the lights turning on far above. He remains still for a moment, as he attempts to remember how to use limbs long disused, as well as his memories of a time before the Dreaming. His A-Miner limbs once thick with bone and muscle are now wasted pale versions of themselves.
He slowly sits up, dust cascading off his form as he notes the stasis bed that had been his whole world for centuries shutting down, mission complete. About the grand chamber, other forms begin to stir. Hundreds at first, then thousands, then millions, as stasis beds cycle down and their occupants awake. He remembers. These are His people. His empire.
An anti-grav unit approaches and gently lifts him from his resting place, taking him to a solitary chair. Once placed there he closes his eyes, as he accepts data from his neural link. He will go to the medical cavern with his people to begin rebuilding his body, but only after beginning the process of rebuilding his empire. This is his task, his duty.
He gasps as the link initiates and he beholds the state of his empire, Planets remain unclaimed, but have been raided severely. The once mighty storehouses are empty, all traces of glory plundered...Except for the Arti-Vault. He smiles. That at least remained intact.
He puts robot drones into motion and moves toward the medical cavern. Intelligence is required about the state of the universe, about Allies, Enemies, and those who came to power while his people slept. But they have Awakened, and it wouldn`t be long before the Empire rose once more!! |
