I know there have been people who have been trying to create a GC alternative, even as a hobby, such as Alpha Centauri.
Have any of you guys seen this page? Has anyone tried approaching Stephen this way? I think for those of you who wanted to create, or take part in a GC that is what the community leaders and members want it to be, this might be the answer.

Ragnarok 99+ day(s) ago | Indeed. Then all I`d need to do is steal some from Mephisto. I think I can call in a favor from Ghost Rider. :D |
Omegian 99+ day(s) ago | Agrees to payments in souls would be great. |
Ragnarok 99+ day(s) ago | Well, assuming he doesn`t ask for too much money (or agrees to a series of smaller payments), if this works out, things will start to get very interesting. |
Omegian 99+ day(s) ago | I can see this from Stephen: I don`t always reply to emails, but when I do it takes me a month to get back to you and forget what you wanted in the first place.
Shut I recall it took a little over a year for him to hand admins powers for ship changes on iRc. Actually longer and he would dc the moment I popped the question sometimes or pansy would. Good pineapple times |
DraconianParadise 99+ day(s) ago | Bid 1 sheep and 100 Shekels O_o |
BadWolf Game-Admin 99+ day(s) ago | good example being his time is so limited I`ve only had 2-3 times to address the email server issues in the past week+ time frame.. and maybe the span of 2 minutes where he had time to sit and chat on it..
so if that`s a good thing then that`s interesting i guess.. |
BadWolf Game-Admin 99+ day(s) ago | actually people constantly taking away from Stephens limited time is part of why we have trouble getting anything done a lot of his time is taken up as is from people bothering him on a daily basis from UC
so in reality taking away from his time further is counterproductive seeing as some days there`s roughly less than a 5 minute window where he can be reached and has time to over things.. then a 3-5 day gap where he`s not around following most times. |
Ragnarok 99+ day(s) ago | Stephen actually replied!! After 4 days. Only 3 lines basically asking about what I had in mind, but it`s a start! I replied that I basically wanted my own GC servers with creative license to change things as I like. Not much of an update, but it`s something! Will likely be another 4-5 business days before I hear back. |
Omegian 99+ day(s) ago | Heh, I knew I wasn`t too far off in Rubles, given market fluctuations.
The other thing is, quarter of a million dollar figure, could get you a game similar to a kickstarter on steam that has good graphics and moderate game play.
*points to Strike Suit Zero as an example: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/43153532/strike-suit-zero
So, to think of the coding in that context is not worth more than at based fair value what it would take for me to buy a bankrupted blockbuster store, which would be about eh, $30,000 give or take. Trying to make something profitable, would mean lots of additional costs up front. Anyhow, will you rent my DVDs now? *southpark reference - they will come* |
DraconianParadise 99+ day(s) ago | haha
yes quite |
Renegade Game-Admin 99+ day(s) ago | He is crazy. That much should be obvious. |
DraconianParadise 99+ day(s) ago | That is RIDICULOUS
Evan at a guesstimate (and a generous one ) of 100 players paying say a recurring fee avergaed to $10 ( bearing in mind players spending money on UC which equate to $1,000 a month
As GC/UC does not advertise and does not seem to particularly host much advertising ( possible some Google pay to click which is minmal at best
So lets add 25% generous residual income to that figures
$1,250 a month
Unless Stephen knows something none of us know , he would be crazy to turn down an offer like that... |
BadWolf Game-Admin 99+ day(s) ago | having something hosted on gamestotal would be subject to the limitations of the servers and requirements by Stephen..
meaning dev of anything if approved would be done with the conditions of windows server 2003, mssql 2000 dev edition, iis6, and coldfusion 5 if he wasn`t willing to compromise with another server side language. something to keep in mind there..
beyond that any offers to buy GC would actually come with UC attached and vise versa.. they are intertwined a lot more than anyone could ever really know.. adminstration logs, player logs, donation logs, all of admin, even some core level game functions, the chat.. it really would be an immense amount of work to try to unintertwine them.. for an offer that Stephen can`t be sure of.. and i can tell you he recently turned down an offer of over 6 figures USD (i`d wager at least 250,000 USD on the rejected offer) |
dreamer 99+ day(s) ago | Sure you can estimate, or if someone went to Stephen with serious intentions you could possibly view the books. You`d rather have solid numbers to work off than hypotheticals. |
Vslice 99+ day(s) ago | The finances of GC are somewhat simple to calculate. Just ask the 45 people that play how much they have spent last year. UC would be a bit more tedious, but the amount of income is probably around 800-1000 a month if there are 100 paid accounts active for every month and sales of other donation packages are still being sold regularly. But I think that my figure is actually higher than what reality is.
I would like to think that the majority of players that are paid races are still paying for the subscription, but it is likely that most paid races are not paying for their accounts any more. |
dreamer 99+ day(s) ago | I agree, 7 figures is steep and a completely inaccurate price. I`m sure some behindysis of the game`s finances and the market for the game would yield a much better price that even Steven`s math couldn`t argue with, however I doubt Stephen would release the finances. |
Vslice 99+ day(s) ago | Back in the good ol` days of GC and UC, 1 million would have been an acceptable price for this game. With ad revenue and paid account status, it would have made the money back within a few years. But due to the lack of support and changes in what the gaming community is looking for, these games have lost value and interest. And the new game that is being developed is another piece of outdated work that is too little, too late. |
TheGreenKnight 99+ day(s) ago | haha 1 mil dollars , really :p |
Raistilin 99+ day(s) ago | I literally told you the price he quoted me, i just converted it to rubles for our dear friend Omeg, lol. |
Renegade Game-Admin 99+ day(s) ago | As I recall DP, he quoted seven figures USD. |
