  Turn Based Event

NPC`s have been spotted on TB servers, maybe they have goodies, maybe they even have Time Capsules, who knows. go find out.

Also don`t forget to check out the TB Chats sticked in the strategy section of the Forums, in the near future there may be chat quizzes for arties there.

From now on those who scout NPC prior to hitting them will be met with counter attacks, if this doesn`t become enough of a deterrent then the use of historias will be allowed on those who scout.

this is an event meant for people to take chances and have faith in their builds in order to get a reward, not find the easiest solution to win 3

This was a rule change implemented just now, since people are finding creative ways to put the least amount of effort into something to gain the maximum rewards.

but the rule is as follows, any blatant scouting attempt on an NPC followed up by win, will result in the npc countering from what ever pr they feel necessary to wipes someone completely.

What count as a blatant scouting attempt you may ask, any hit that looks like it was intended to fail from the beginning and requiring little turns and meant to do as little damage as possible in order to take as many colonies on a follow up hit.

so basically try to win on every hit you make against an NPC.

@fortythree

Please understand that we have a brand new team of staff members from all walks of life, cultures, languages, and backgrounds as well as we are not all used to working as a perfect team just yet so please be patient with us . Some members may have missinterpeted what actions may and may not be taken but please keep in mind we are all working very hard to turn this game around for everyone and make it a fun and challenging game again. One thing we as a team have in common is we love this game and will do everything we can to better it even at the cost of our personal enjoyment and playtime.

We hope you all have enjoyed the event activities thus far and we will continue to dedicate ourselves to thinking outside the box and help get our activity numbers back up.

Pebehindising: A mixture of spelling misstake and insane chat filter.
I think this one is even funnier than behindysis.

Or we could simply accept that events might actually be unpredictable to allow event coordinators to adjust to unanticipated actions by players (see I can use big words too!! :D).

I`m with you on "unwritten rules", what happened was a guide acted prematurely, you got compensated, and then the NPC behavioral change was implemented (I feel the term "rule" is less descriptive of the situation).

Just remember everyone..... THIS IS A GAME!! HAVE FUN PEOPLE!! That`s why we are here right? :P

@Ragnarock my complaint is not so much about the change but about the fact that some individuals have acted upon the change regarding actions which were taken before the change was announced. This is always going to be a probability when changes are made with no prior warning. All I`m asking is that when changes of, any nature, to what is and isn`t considered acceptable is implemented that the community get fair warning. This would avoid the likelyhood of staff erroneously pebehindising historic actions and would allow players who had planned a strategy based on said actions to reposition empires. I can`t see anything unreasonable about this complaint and think that everyone, staff and players would benefit from my suggestion that except in excceptional circumstances fair warning should be given before rule changes are implemented.

43, think of it not as a "rule change" but rather a warning that conditions within the event has changed. Before NPCs couldnt attack at all, now they can if they`ve been scouted. Looking at it like this would would be consistent.

Besides, there`s nothing really stopping you from "blatently scouting", you just need to plan accordingly. You just better have borders and enough turns to hold your winnings. Lowbies can simply scout their borders and take the "punishment" which is a counter, although c3 empires suffer slightly more. :P

I cringe at the lack of reading and comprehension ability of some people.
And 43, really? Scouting to wipe takes skill? On a tb server where you`re usually left alone to build for hours? Seriously?!

well first off no, since there is no not going to an NPC UW on TB server, Though if there were to be TB UW it wouldn`t be considered scouting since the fleet would be know from previous hits and the way UW generally publicized. on top of that you hitting a UW wouldn`t generate any counter`s so there for you could not be counter attacked.

So if I`m trying to help weaken a UW with repeated attacks of 30 or 60 or 90 turns of, say, Chlor, and the NPC has 1 Billion power, I get retaled since I made an "attack meant to lose" and I`m accused of essentially cheating? ( If I save up I get hit by other players 99% of the time, but I`d like to not get 90% losses again and want the UW to lose)

I`ll sit on the sidelines, then.

Cents I have some sympathy with your view but what I experienced was obviously not a mistake as it has happened a second time. The majority of staff do apear to be fantastic individuals that devote time and effort to the game and I don`t want to detract from that.
However there is obviously at least one member of staff who is abusing their position and as I was portrayed as the instigator I felt that the only way I could resonably put forward my position was in a public forum.
If EE manages to sort this out this will increase my trust in EE greatly but I still maintain that arbitrary rule changes implemented without any prior warning are so open to the possibility of abuse that they just shouldn`t happen and the only way I would consider this acceptable is if the chief admin were a non playing, completely independent, individual and I realise that just isn`t going to happen.
When I consider what EE has done to clarify the rules I think he has the same aim in mind as me, that there shouldn`t be unwritten rules that we can fall foul of, I just think that as he has a different perspective to me and he may need reminding that we, the ordinary players, don`t know what is being discussed amongst the staff and should, if not be consulted, at least be informed of rule changes. That said if I had initially known that this was the action of one rouge member of staff I would have dealt with this all through PMs but since no information led me to believe this before I posted I guess this is another argument for keeping the community informed about what is going on.

fortythree you should be ashamed of yourself...talk about a self serving rage. i think the gc staff are awesome. mistakes happen and gc empires are always treated fairly, being comped when its warranted. mistakes happen and staff try to fix it. you`d have gotten comped whether you went public or not. i applaud EE and BW and think you are way out of line. even tho i didn`t participate, this event was great!!

As far as I see the issue of scouting, this is a perfectly reasonable and sensible reaction to the event and represents the only way that "skill" can be demonstrated in this event.
The NPCs have access to apparently all the ships available on the ship list in addition to the ?mystery ships and extra versions of some ships (I liked Even More Chlor as a ship name!). Given this I can see 3 rational strategies to attacking them.
1. Build a well balanced 10 stack: the problem with this strategy is that given the nature of some of the ships used a win here is more a matter of luck than judgement. Swap 2 stacks around and you could easily go from a complete wipe of the NPC to a loss. Also this is quite likely to leave the NPC in DP meaning that a second hit is unlikely to be possible.
2. Spam FTW! I hate this strategy and think this represents an abuse of the NPC event and the game. I always cringe when I have a decent 10 stack and loose to a spam, it should happen so infrequently that it`s worth posting not virtual as a daily occurance. I realise this is due to the game mechanics and is not easy to fix but I think regular spammers should be penalised. I will however admit that on one server I did spam a few attacjs, however that was due to circumstances beyond my immediate control as my choice of spam should have indicated.
3. Scout and wipe. This is what I consider represents some element of skill in this event. After a few false starts I had a great system, fodder up to 50% PR, scout with an enslave attack then work out what fleet would wipe the NPC taking minimal damage. As far as I`m concerned this is the only way to demonstrate some skill in this event. The fact that I was doing fairly well out of it means that actions could be taken, build equal PR stacks that would be difficult to predict, make more use of unknown ships that I couldn`t work out how to kill have more people check for scouts and swap around stacks, I did get caught out a couple of times by rebuil

@Brotherhood I am not accusing anyone of favouring, I am stateing that the current Administrative structure could easily lead to this, without total transparency, which means rules announced well in advance of being implemented. I will always cry foul, it is the principle not this specific incident that I object to. The quote you refer to was before it was announced that I would be compensated, if I had know the NPC involved exceeded their authority I would have dealt with this privately. Since it is clear that new rules are in place I may or may not consider taking part in the event, I just felt that since I was being penalised for breaking an unwritten rule I wouldn`t want to run the risk of falling foul of another arbitrary rule change.
@Yoshi I am not ungrateful you will find I have publicly (and also privately) thanked the Admin after previous events and I will continue to thank those who spend time and effort putting on well thought out events. I will however always cry foul of rules being changed without warning, this is what I mean by a lack of transparency. Given the current situations an announcement and 24 hours grace would have been much more appropriate than a pre-emptive retal on me which as far as I know only led to a compensation because I went public, I have no way of knowing how this might have played out if I`d made a complaint directly to EE, although I now know that a complaint against a guide/admin through the official channel in the help center will be ignored, unless EE has done something to gain access to this or to get someone to look into this.
As to scouting I`ll be posting my thought in the next reply...

Some people are ungrateful towards the Admins and Guides who come up with such events. Always thinking about a conspiracy OR Admin abuse. Someone need to sit down, take a deep breath, maybe some coffee too, take a bite in thier donut and take their head out of their "melons". If you are not happy with the rules, don`t attack them. Leave them for people who actually want to enjoy it.

Wow, your unbeilivable 43, they compensate you because the rule wasent in place when it took place, then announce the rule change because they see the event being farmed and you cry that they are not transparent? And then go on farther and say theyvare trying to favor empires or groups because they change it? If anything it shows that they are trying to keep it fair aspossible. Not knowing what they have is HUGE part of the event, to allow peeps to know their fleet when they are giving great colonies as reward for beating the uber fleets blind would be favoring short cutters. They are keeping the playing field even, and only someone who wouod rather them give the stuff away would ever have a problem with this. Ajd the attitude "if i dont get to know their fleet i just wint attack then" says it all.

Let me go ahead and clarify something here.

You all suck and are total, complete n00bs. Your arguing gives me a headache and bothers my digestive tract. My cats are hungry, it`s your fault that I haven`t gotten to the store for something with which to feed them. Oh look, a butterfly!
