Hey, just posting a thought here, but I was just thinking that there should be in-game rewards for people who play guard in order to make up for the lack of ability to ever UW.
Note that I am not a guard, and I do not have fedmates who are guardian at the moment on either server that I play.
That said, I think that to enhance the role of Guardian as an anti-UW fighter, and to encourage role-playing more, there should be rewards for guards that valiantly oppose a UW.
Not only should there be rewards, but I think it would be an awesome twist for Guardians to be able to "petition the angels" (aka admins) to enable them to oppose a UW more strongly. In real terms, this means that every time a (serious) UW occurs, and an admin ("god") with the powers sees fit, they can grant a small, one-time (per UW) bonus of X BTC (balanced according to server) to the petitioning guard on the condition that they USE said BTC to oppose the UW. Once they use the turns, they must then submit a battle report of how the battle ensued, which will be used as proof that the BTC was in fact used for the purpose of opposing the UW in some form. Failure to meet these requirements would result in negative turns for the empire in proportion to however many caps they were granted.
To make things more fun, each admin with the powers can specify a specific guide to how they must be "prayed to" in order to "sway their favor". Again, key word is "ROLE PLAY" for FUN. If people aren`t smiling or laughing and having FUN, and it seems like too much work, YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG!!! So put on your fun caps and start thinking creatively here!! Again, FUN FUN FUN and ROLE PLAY are KEY!! :D
Bottom line, if we want to keep this community vibrant and even make it grow by retaining players, it`s gotta be fun. I feel we have to bring that back and find ways to counteract the steady decline of this community. |

Back in the old days a new player did not need to have a battle filter to play game and "have fun" targets were plentiful below 1 mill pr, so much so that any "show all" screen would have numerous targets out of dp active/logged off. Minerals to build ships were also plentiful so that a new player could battle consistently.
This is how I got hooked playing game many years ago. The battles. What made me want to buy a paid was the added turns, etc... but it was the battling that got me hooked.
I would imagine its a tough sell these days for a new player to stick around when he sees the game is called Galactic Conquest, but turns out to be build what little ships u can, wait an hour... and then get wiped by a vet.... repeat....

99+ day(s) ago | Rag has a good point in a " im as high as a kite kinda way " role play is a big deal in most mmorpg`s and their isnt any on here. I think keeping the DM open with more with rules and guidlines for themed events that include rewards for role playing would be a great start. Even a section on the forum for DM discussion in role play format would be awesome. I have always wanted to see a themed DM event recreating some of the old race wars from the base story line like guardian vrs maruader or terran vrs minor and so forth. |

99+ day(s) ago | @ DarthPyth, the whole idea is that if it`s feels like too much "work", then you`re doing it wrong. Besides, don`t know if you counted, but there aint too many guards around. A prayer from the occasional guard ONLY during UWs doesn`t seem like much "work" to me.
Also, I can tell from your post that you mainly play RT, which is a special server with special problems that don`t apply as much to the other FOUR turn-based servers (where filling your mineral needs is generally not a problem, and turns are a slightly greater premium).
@GM, talk to Stephen, who is the only one who can make the fix. Let us know how that goes. If you can convince him, you will have accomplished something that admins around here can only dream of: getting Stephen to listen to your ideas for improving the game and actually implement them WITHOUT breaking the game in the process. ^_^ |
