Ragnarok 99+ day(s) ago | Ender!!! How`s it going man? My advice: definitely finish your degree so you can be an officer. I think I can answer some of your questions. Give me a PM on Normal. However, to answer your question directly, in the air force, it`s anything that starts with a "1N" in enlisted or 14N for officers.
However, don`t simply limit yourself to Intel. Lots of jobs in the military require a Top Secret clearance, not just Intel.
However, you may want to remember what you`re getting into: the Military. If you get out with anything other than an honorable discharge, it will follow you the rest of your life, and it will be chain hanging over your head even 20 years out. And if you try running for office, even 20 years later, they will bring it up and ask why you weren`t honorable discharged. It`s akin to being a 2nd or 3rd rate citizen.
Being fired from the military isn`t the same as being fired from a job: there are very real consequences. |
EnderWiggin 99+ day(s) ago | *bump* Thinking of joining Air Force or Army. My job prospects as a graduating software engineer look boring. So I`m pretty sure I`m gonna sign up in a couple months after I`ve done some more research. Looking to do something Intel related, preferably with a Top Secret clearance somewhere along the line (I hear those look good on a resume after you get out). MOS suggestions ppl? (99 on ASVAB, so no problems there) |
Ragnarok 99+ day(s) ago | Well, in the air force, you have to be able to, at a minimum, be able to run a mile and a half in under 12 minutes (no more than 13 at the very most). You also have to have a wasteline of less than 35 inches ideally and no more than 39 inches at a minimum. Then you should be able to do 50 "proper" pushups (arms have to break 90 degrees) and situps in a minute.
If you can do these things, you`ll have no issues in the Air Force as far as physical shape stuff goes. |
WolfHaley 99+ day(s) ago | what kind of physical shape do you have to be in to sign up for the military? |
YATYAS 99+ day(s) ago | Remember 3 - 3 - 3
Survive the first 3 hours in boot camp.
Survive the first 3 days. The first 3 weeks.
With each passed your odds of successfully completing go up.
Technical, electrical and engineering MOSs carry over well to civilian jobs. Often there are job opportunities with contractors that provide support to the US Navy.
I had an opportunity after I got out to work for Bendix, but it was at the naval station at Diego Garcia in the middle of the Indian Ocean. It paid really good money. |
GradualIncline 99+ day(s) ago | Rag, lol, seen that joke before :P |
Ragnarok 99+ day(s) ago | *gives Travvivian an atomic wedgie, breaking the elastic*
Better than your underwear I bet!!
:D |
Travvivian 99+ day(s) ago | Hey Rag, how are those bed-sores on your @ss doing these days...? lololololol. |
Ragnarok 99+ day(s) ago | I`m dead serious man, go to an air force recruiter and ask for one of those forms. They are for realz. :D |
Ragnarok 99+ day(s) ago | They do, but you need to ask a recruiter for an I.D. 10T form to fill out if you want to take one with you into the air force. :P |
CaptainAwesome 99+ day(s) ago | i like the Spice Girls do they allow those in the AIr Force? |
Ragnarok 99+ day(s) ago | Dude, air force is where it`s at. In the navy all the other services will laugh and look down on you. Although even the air force is chided at for being the "chair force", at least we got respect. :P
And it is illegal to use spice or any other recreational drugs in the military, and if they catch you they can throw you in jail and you`ll be a 2nd or 3rd class citizen for the rest of your life. Military is no joke. You either get out of it loved by all or you`ll have problems ever getting a decent job for the rest of your life. |
CaptainAwesome 99+ day(s) ago | I`m not in the Army or anything but i once glued my G.I Joe to my hand and pretended to be a super soldier, i still have the marks from where it was removed , the doctors told me it should be completely healed in a few weeks :) |
FunkyPindaz 99+ day(s) ago | I`ve been in the RNLAF for a few years so don`t exactly know how the US Navy works, but in our Navy you don`t start with kitchen unless you choose so. In ours you apply for a function on the ship and you get trained/tested for that function.
If the US Navy does need you to start in the kitchen and you don`t like it, go for an officer function;) |
DestroyerOfEmpires 99+ day(s) ago | Alright thanks for the tips guys |
Travvivian 99+ day(s) ago | No. Quit immediately. What if he gets busted in week with something on him? Boom, career = FUBAR. Also, what if he ends up landing a job that requires more BI`s? Polygraph and integrity interviews can suck for some.... |
ThEpAkIsTaNiEmPirE 99+ day(s) ago | BTW quit weed 3 weeks before going to camp, and drink plenty of water :0. |
ThEpAkIsTaNiEmPirE 99+ day(s) ago | My brother is a psychiatrist at the great lakes... He sees alot of kids who try to do boot camp, over work themselves and they end up at his place... Or he used to be, I am not sure. But I know he told me a few stories. |
WhatIsTheMatrix 99+ day(s) ago | Indeed. If you like technical related jobs or anything private sector, maybe even with security clearance, go airforce. I`m actually considering it. I take the ASVAB next week... |
Travvivian 99+ day(s) ago | I assume you are American?
The Navy doesn`t provide as many career paths that can be readily applied to the civilian world as the Army, Marine Corps and Chair Force, depending upon your ASVAB and resulting NEC rating. Also, a buddy of mine`s quote is the best example of Naval life for a good amount of people. "This job sucks. And I SAW a ship once, out in the bay." lol. It can be a pretty boring few years depending upon what you end up doing.
That all aside, don`t be f**king not-smart. Do yourself a favor and give up the drugs, legal or not, entirely. One slip up can have dire consequences, and a... Less than honorable Discharge follows you for life, as a potential black mark for employers. |
