  Guardians  

So those who know me will recall that I`m a die hard Guardian player. For those who don`t know me, I`m a die hard guardian player.

I am currently not playing as Guardian because the race has been ruined. I`m interested in seeing what people think of the race, and why its currently considered balanced.

Lets start with Guardian lore. Long story short, in a last ditch effort to prevent themselves for being wiped out by the Marauders they used the UW to destroy the galaxy. That`s a big deal, and they were upset, so they vowed never to do it again. All cool right? Brofist. Enter Guardians, the self declared guardians of the galaxy now and forever.

The race entered the game filling that role pretty much perfectly. This was long ago, so I`ll shed some light:
VASTLY superior build rates, like more so than they currently are. But all the ships had -50 or -99 to all shields except energy, energy shields were the Guardians best work (also in the lore). To make up for this the ships had ridiculous amounts of hull, and small amounts of weapons.

BUT WAIT, even with low damage output that seems so OVERPOWERED MOOPS. How can we fix that? Well lets give Guardian only 1 income type, tax, remove the ability to reward, and make that income AWFUL. Like, horrid. And then give them next to 0 upkeeps.

What do we end up with? Our Guardians of the galaxy are basically tanks, capable of mounting the ranks at a moment`s notice, taking a beating without getting wiped out, doing small amounts of damage when stacked or spammed carefully, and here`s the most important part- Because of no income and no upkeep, it means that guardians could only build within their income. Sure they can fly up the ranks and take 20 hits, but once they break the threshold of their turn by turn income they were stuck.

This is the way guardian was designed to play. What we have now are overbuffed ships with extremely high damage output, lowered buildrates, and the same crab economy.

hmm seems people want guards to go back to being able to get based by missile and cap ships spam. Unless they build nuetral ships to counter than and end up making the low upkeep counter productive. They might as well buff thier income too since they will have to use the expensive nuetral ships.

i think that on TB servers they fit in perfect specially cause 90% of the failed uw`s on them is due to guards so...that fits the lore perfectly imo o-O

easy enough fix

double the current hull and half the current fire power for all guardian ships

do the opposite for maru

lastly make tax only income source for virals

Oh ... that would have helped me understand you better Moops ... uhm yea, that pretty much was the case since a long time ago ... even in 08` or 07` whenever the first big wave of ship changes happened, what it meant to play as a certain race style changed.

No you guys are misunderstanding me. I do think guard ships are overpowered, BUUUT I also stated that`s debatable and its not the point of this thread.

The point I`m really trying to get across is that the way the Guardian race is played now is not the way it was intended to be played, and doesn`t fit with the description or lore for the species.

Moops, the same could be said of any race really if you really looked at it, explorable races that are tax or have a good setup who don`t need to cluster or do strike hits that do enough damage that their one hit outweighs another persons build for 4 days lets say.

It is just something that this BR increase has done, people from lower prs will have the bigger advantage than those in the ranks in most cases.

Moops when guardians first came out the ships required no minerals and had no upkeep

thats why the negative mods are insane; however, as the ships were nerfed and both cost and upkeep were increased the negative mods remained the same.

Even maru ships were nerfed greatly as originally they had ships with like 15 range and also no mins required; however, plunder was higher

As for overpowered i believe a well stacked viral, terran or maru beats a guardian everytime
we do pwn miners and collective though stacked or not :)

My bad just curious cause i love the Guardian lore and do want to play that race at one point, but people said you go on "retirement", or its the easy way. ^^

I don`t like that question lol. *Personally* I feel they are WAY overpowered, but that`s always open to debate.
My point in this thread is simply that Guardian ships are wrong, not OP or UP, just incorrect to the playstyle that was intended for them.

But when you take a race who`s power was governed ONLY by its income, and then you give it more powerful ships, you`re going to end up with something way too strong. An old guard empire with a huge income was steadfast, hard to kill, and hard to chase, and hard to keep down, but it wasn`t a big threat until it was 10x your PR countering you.

A current guard with a huge income has no restrictions, they can build murderous fleets for no cost, while actually still producing money at very high PR`s, and still build faster than any race. That doesn`t seem right to me. But again, it wasn`t my original point of the thread :P

Well since we are going to be debating this anyhow.
What are the guard ships now then? to some balanced, to others OP and some may even think UP? All i have encountered are K spamms -_- saddly

Lol EE I knew it was only a matter of time before you showed up :P

Contrary to popular belief, the original guard ships we usable when stacked, the high hull made the ships great as "fodder-type" ships to soak up spam.

What you`re saying EE is that since all the ships were similar is that you had about a 70% chance of winning a single ship matchup by using some missile type cap. Properly stacked guardian fleets did not have this problem, their power didn`t come from strong weapons or shields, it came from BR and Hull. That`s what gave them true presence on the ranks.

people can still spam cap ships and missile ships and easily wipe a guards fleet unless they have topaz/queens up top, but if a guard doesn`t get a good match they are wiped.
