FlashysDomain 2011-12-04 | | Zombies | | i had a short but stimulating intellectual discussion just now with my 12 year old nephew. Debating the merits of a Zombie attack with friends, he came to his wise uncle to seek out the Truth.
Here is his question...one which admittedly I am unable to answer as I am not as familiar with Zombie issues as some here may be
From what I can tell, Zombies have many disturbing traits, the stench of their decomposition, and their tendency to congregate in large numbers are two. A single dead body gives off a foul odor, certainly enough to make a normal person vomit if they were close enough.
Now, say you`re an apocalypse survivor, barricaded inside a shopping mall, faced with dozens if not hundreds of undead shoppers (y`know...like during XMas !) . Putting aside the brain-eating and all that, how dangerous is the combined smell of all those half dead corpses? Would the stench of hundreds of walking dead make your sanctuary uninhabitable?
So... anyone have an answer I may pass off as one of my own device? I have to keep up with the "wise uncle" rep y`know..<g> |

Hellus 99+ day(s) ago | Wow how fitting is this topic, I have just watched the first season of the walking dead yesterday. Not a bad show but got really hooked.
I spent two years as an environmental consultant and on a few occasions i had to enter some nasty dung holes, I imagine the smell was not as bad as a zombie infested mall but the houses were awful. crab all over the floors; a bunch of hoarders. Vicks vapour rub under the nose was the only thing that made going in those places tolerable. |
Raistilin 99+ day(s) ago | The bad smell would be from the decaying/rotting flesh. Decaying/rotting flesh would be a nice breeding ground for all sorts of nasty diseases... I`d rather not be near it and run away from that there space. |
DraconianParadise 99+ day(s) ago | Well firstly i would say, if you were in a shopping mall, surely that would be an enclosed space. Being barricaded in the smell would not permeate the glass or walls ? If inside the shopping mall, then you could go into a store, Like others have said scented candles, air refreshener etc
But more to the point, maybe you should say the overpowering urge to stay alive and not be ripped limb from limb by flesh eating zombies would overpower your urge to debunk you sanctuary
And finally if the smell was that bad.... breathe through your mouth ! LOL |
ShatterdDreams 99+ day(s) ago | nah shack up in the yankee candle store, or any bath and body works store...or really any store with great smelling stuff...
though i`d think eventually you`d over look the smell |
Apollo 99+ day(s) ago | i would just ask for a gasmask from the cliche "built his own bunker to live out the apacolypse" surviver |
