HoneyBucket{HH} 2010-12-10 | | Final Exams | | So I know there are a lot of people in the midst of studying for and taking final exams right now.... I figured we might as well have a place to discuss such topics.
Anyone have any studying tips or pointers they can share?
Anyone have any very frustrating classes \ professors they want to vent about?
Anyone sick and tired of studying and just want it all to go away?
Anyone excited that finals are here and love the process \ stress of studying and taking exams? |

EnderWiggin 99+ day(s) ago | That`s really good advice Rag. I should note though depending on your college some classes are a danged sight harder than anything you`d ever take even in a good highschool... XD. |
DraconianParadise 99+ day(s) ago | Good luck Hobo |
HoneyBucket{HH} 99+ day(s) ago | Study, study, studying the inside of a whiskey bottle is so much better then studying for finals. Oh how I miss my friend the whiskey bottle, I hope you will be there waiting for me when I am done with finals, I know you will, you are so reliable and true to your nature. I love my friend the whiskey bottle. |
UberSexyTwitchMonkey 99+ day(s) ago | exams in england are in mid january so i have a little while. best of luck to you guys. |
Omegian 99+ day(s) ago | SAT II`s wont count for most colleges as well Rag.
Finals wise, lots of sleep, focus on the core subject matter and then review notes that you took in class. Normally my note taking focuses on things he emphasizes in discussions more than once by putting symbols on my pages. *hightlighter doesn`t work for me*
I have done this for harder classes like sciences where i record stuff on my phone and play it back later when reviewing notes. It tends to help my studying, however since its Finals time either you did it or you didn`t it.
May the force be with you for those taking finals. |
Ragnarok 99+ day(s) ago | Yes, and for anyone still in HIGH SCHOOL, consider yourself lucky that you heard it here first.
DON`T WAIT FOR COLLEGE TO TAKE COLLEGE LEVEL CLASSES. Trust me when I say that core level college classes are no tougher than anything you`d take at a GOOD high school.
Also, don`t go for any of those "AP courses" if you can avoid it. Take the straight college course from the local community college (they usually transfer to most places, but check to make sure), and do everything possible to ensure that you can get high school credit for it as well. Just cuz you`re in 9th grade doesn`t mean it`s too tough for you, because it doesn`t get any easier 4 or 6 or 8 years. |
HoneyBucket 99+ day(s) ago | lol lovely rant Rag =)
And don`t even get me started on the education system as a whole.... but the point is that high schools are not giving a complete general education and therefore the colleges have to make up for this. If you want a "specific education" for a "specific job" go to a tech school or something of that sort. If I hire a college graduate I expect them to be well versed in all sorts of subjects outside of their major as well as have an especially in depth knowledge of their major.
And a true student is hungry for knowledge and soaks up all they can learn.... they don`t complain about having to learn about something that they don`t care for. Since you`re their with such a poor attitude you`re not going to learn half of what you could and you`re making it much more of a struggle then it has to be.... since you have to take these courses for your degree you might as well try to have a decent attitude towards them and try to learn as much as you can or else you truly are wasting your time.... but that`s your fault not the systems.

Ragnarok 99+ day(s) ago | I always felt that the "well rounded" argument is BS because you`re getting a decree to be able to competently work a specific kind a job, not be "well rounded". For that matter, getting a degree at all is proving to be more and more worthless because now-a-days it takes a master`s degree WITH related work experience to be competitive and not just another resume among the dozens of other applicants competing for the same singular position you are.
Fact of the matter is that the "core classes" they make you take in college is all stuff you should have learned in high school to begin with. In fact, any student that doesn`t start taking college level classes in their SOPHOMORE YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL is wasting time and money that`s better spent elsewhere.
Of course, I draw my experience from going to a small state university in the Midwest that most people have never heard of because their sports team never hit the big time, and their lobbyist isn`t as powerful as that of the bigger name schools. I have discovered that a University is only as good as their faculty, student organizations, alumni and connections to various government and private organizations forged partly through alumni, student organizations (such as Greek Organizations) and faculty.
So if anyone feels they are wasting their time taking their core classes, it`s because they are. It`s not their fault of course, because they either weren`t told of those opportunities or their high school was a POS for not allowing them to have high school credit for taking collage classes through the local community college.
And that`s my rant for the day. :) |
ear614 99+ day(s) ago | i think instead of the game you guys to try this in an arcade

ear614 99+ day(s) ago | actually i know playing video games all day isn`t going to help me but its also the only day i don`t have to worry about homework or something. |
DrKsTGuArDiAn 99+ day(s) ago | Did wing just say scurvy? |
wingnut 99+ day(s) ago | probably best not to get to close hb :) |
HoneyBucket{HH} 99+ day(s) ago | *gives wingnut a big hug* |
wingnut 99+ day(s) ago | I am going to screw school so hard that it`s eyes will bulge. |
wingnut 99+ day(s) ago | I was at a fair yesterday, but it wasn`t a county fair, and there wasn`t any chili. They call it "gypsy fair" here :S Maybe that is why I am so chili crazy today.
Anyways, I have been thinking long and hard, and have decided to drop out of school and become a Carny. I want to run one of those booths where people have to throw things at like bottles which are actually impossible to knock down or something like that. I also want to make and sell chili. My wife will be utterly insane and I will raise 6 children in a old stinky trailer. I will eat nothing but chili until I die from scurvy or something like that. Screw going to school. |
TheDarkKnight 99+ day(s) ago | ear, your rank in the 10th grade doesnt matter lol
you rank senior year is what matters.
and then after that its just your gpa and your gpa wont stay at 4.0 sittin in your room playin video games (i wish it would though lol) |
HoneyBucket{HH} 99+ day(s) ago | I think at the county fair you can get some sort of certificate for chili eating.... but i think it is a minor not a major =/ |
wingnut 99+ day(s) ago | Can I major in chili eating? |
HoneyBucket{HH} 99+ day(s) ago | Very good point DM.
Wingnut, chili is dank, especially with cheese over the top and sour cream.... and maybe some delicious cornbread on the side.... mmmhmmmhmm.
Rag, you have to find a reason for yourself..... the main reason I have found is to be a well rounded student, you never know when knowledge of a particular subject will server you well, even though It may have nothing to do with what you want to do. One example, there might be that one day you will have a boss that is fascinated in a certain subject and you will be able to discuss it with him and this will allow you to stand apart from the others.... or someone you are interviewing for a job with etc. Or a girl that you are trying to impress. Knowledge of any subject is always a bonus and you should soak it up while you can.
Also, when I was in calculus, in lower division, the biggest complaint I heard from other students was.... "when am I ever going to use this?!?" Or "I am going to forget this the moment the semester is over, what is the point?!?" This is a common feeling for students in core courses.... and trust me I have felt it myself many times over. But what I realized during my last semester in calculus, was that I may never need to know calculus, but that course was teaching me patience, it was teaching me to solve problems, to evaluate problems and learn how to approach them..... all of which are the essence of just about any job and will even benefit you outside of school and work.
Just because you can`t see the reason or benefit of a course, doesn`t mean there isn`t one. Learn how to appreciate even the most frustrating courses and you will be that much more successful in life. |
wingnut 99+ day(s) ago | I like chili |
