Ankaar 2016-01-30 | | Coll / Maru exploration | | It was fine not allowing certain races to explore when there were players we could take planets from. Unfortunately, there just arent a lot of players to hit nowadays. On top of that, when you do hit them, youre generally going to get some pretty crabpy planets.
I realize theyre supposed to sort of be hard mode races, but at this point theyre nigh impossible mode.
I really think both these races should be given the ability to explore. If you want to limit it in some fashion, like say they cant explore over 50 planets (normal limit is around 86 or 87) that would be fine. just give them a fighting chance though.
Even if the limit was like 25 planets for them to explore, that still allows them to set up at the very least a decent homeworld to operate from or set up some borders while they fight. |

Ankaar 99+ day(s) ago | I honestly havent got a clue what youre talking about. Scanner shouldnt in any way influence power rating other than the same way weapon or hull influences it.
Without looking at actual scanners, lets say scouts have a scanner / pr of 100.
We could give maru ships a scanner / pr of 25.
So if a scout is 500 pr, scanner would equal 50,000
A maru ship could be 500 pr, and scanner would equal 12500
If we decided that was too much scanner for maru to have, we dont have to tweak PR at all - just reduce scanner.
Theres absolutely no rule that says X pr has to = Y scanner value |
Omegian 99+ day(s) ago | Lets take for example 1 Scanner Rating = 2.5 Power Rating for a guardian fighter, for a corvette it is more. But yes, scanner rating does affect a ships PR. Unless you are talking about tweaking how many planets can be explored by the race by planet count, then the scanner rating changes wont be needed. But if you want to do the latter by having no exploration ceiling then ship scanner rating would need to reduced or have negative modified. The question then would be, what would others recommend as the best method. |
Ankaar 99+ day(s) ago | scanner doesnt affect pr.
You may be considering the scanner / pr ratio, but that just means give it a smaller scanner to make the ratio smaller - dont need to give it a large scanner, and then give it a larger pr haha |
Omegian 99+ day(s) ago | Scanner Rating affects ships PR rating to some degree, while it is minor some ships have as much scanner rating as terran ships and not sure that is the way I think collective exploration would want to go from I think the discussions I have seen. Please correct me if I am wrong. |
Ankaar 99+ day(s) ago | I have no idea why youd have to change a ships stats because you added a scanner |
Omegian 99+ day(s) ago | Should clarify, if staff had to update scanner ratings for maru or collectives if the ability to explore is allowed it would possibly mean tweaking ships for the entire race(s). |
Omegian 99+ day(s) ago | Scanner rating affects ships pr. If for example you add scanner rating to a bark or sloop or a Pike, we would need to also tweak each ship, not a whole lot, but it would be every ship. Not shooting this down, but letting you know ship pr is affected by scanner rating as well. While I don`t like changing class mechanics each race will eventually get overhauled and the question that everyone ask is when. |
Helms{}Deep 99+ day(s) ago | Or give scanners on some of the Maru ships, and make it so the Collective can capture scouts, at an upkeep penalty. That way they both can scout if need be. |
Ankaar 99+ day(s) ago | Yep - seems like a fair alternative. Dont give either of them scouts, but give their regular ships radar or scanners or whatever its called. This way in order to explore they have to build ships, which will bring them out of dp, if theyre not already out.
I think thats a great way to handle it |
Helms{}Deep 99+ day(s) ago | I agree, been saying this for years. Even if the have to use an offensive ship, they should have this installed |
