  Mineral miner Cluster v desert

As a mineral miner, should you make clusters for their beneficial modifier, or just stick to desert and barren planets as they have nice modifiers too.

*sigh* like i said.. those modifiers are for MINING, there`s nothing in the manual at all that says anything about mineral modifiers..
those modifiers only effect ore extraction speed

and no, none of the planets make 0 minerals per turn.. don`t know where you got that from.
i even tested it a few minutes ago to be sure.

cane, some planet classes make 0 minerals per turn, lol. Check the manual under planet types for mineral modifiers. here is the formula that is done PER colony and added together.

Mineral calculation (GC)

Colony Size (No of planets in Colony) + ( Colony Size x Mining Research Lvl / 10 x Planet mining level / 100 x Racial Modifier)

a `huge` difference? hmm.. what`s huge to you, like 1-2 more minerals per turn? ;p
ive never noticed any difference between different planet classes, so if some produce faster then others, then that`s news to me

actually... cane thats not correct. Planet modifiers make a huge difference in mineral extraction. 10 deserts will make more minerals than 2 c1s. But you are right about 5 c1s making less than 1 c2... but that is becuase the mineral modifier on a c1 is 10 and on a c2 it is 20, and a c3 30 respectfully. but it makes much more sense to hoard planets as a mineral miner then to keep 12-15 single desert/barrens because ultimatly you can make MUCH MUCH more in making c2s or c3s.

oops *didn`t check the date* heheh
oh well, maybe it will help someone else :-)

actually, planet modifiers seem to effect mineral extraction. atleast Cluster modifiers.
it`s been proven a few times that Clusters actually extract minerals faster then single planets.
for instance, two C1`s would actually give you a little more minerals then 10 single planets, and one C3 will produce more then five C2`s
other then that though, i`m pretty sure single planets all produce minerals at the same speed (barren, desert, icy, ect.)
i`ve never noticed any difference between single planets. the different Mining modifiers you see on those planets are just for ore extraction, that`s all.

so in essence, it basically just comes down to planet count. higher planet count = more minerals per turn. you don`t need to pay attention to anything else. so start making those clusters :)

The only thing that reflects the speed at which someone can get out mins are the race modifiers I believe. Land doesn`t matter in the least, neither do the modifiers on the planets. The only thing that would make a difference is an increased number of planets. =)

I thought the mining mods were for getting ore out *not* minerals..

well then land matters. -.-

and anyways were talking about mining not agri *slaps*

not always id prefer a 60k fert over a 30k c2 ^^

clusters are always better. =)

Your right, but a c1 still counts as 5 planets, and the c2 as 25, etc..
and to be honest, i think that the mineral modifier only counts for mining ore, not minerals

I may be wrong

would you care to elaborate on that answer?
as far as I know, a C1 has a +10% modifier for mining, where both a barren and a desert planet have a +100% modifier for mining

clusters
