Insomnia my old friend
Eyes snap open,
Sit up, I'm awake.
Same dream again,
The one I can't shake.
A gasp, cold air
As I get out of bed.
Quick stand up,
Blood drains from my head.
A stifled yawn,
A muttered curse.
This nightmare,
It keeps getting worse.
My dread reflection,
Those bloodshot eyes,
Ever more apparent,
That I can't hide.
Icy hands
Reaching from my sheets.
Their vain attempt
To pull me back to sleep.
A nervous shiver
Crawls up my spine,
As I cross the room
To gaze outside.
The trees, the stars,
The stark mountainside,
And the solemn peace,
That they provide.
A brief respite,
From my twisted dreams.
The only rest
I'll get it seems.
But the moon retreats,
Much time has passed,
And I must forsake
This peace at last.
Your Icy hands,
They welcome me.
Your unwanted grip,
Drags me back to sleep.
Surrender at last,
No strength to fight.
Its long past time,
I embraced the night.
