Take the time to earn your position, even on TB. If you hard reset and crush strong empires after all the work they put in, why would they stay? You don`t want to run off all your most loyal players to get the game to grow. No hard reset. (And free me from slavery grantweep who should have activated UW on Slow server by now).

SD: thanks for stating the obvious about RT. my ideas, as always, are more suited for slower TB servers which are really dying out. As far as I`m concerned, RT still has a decent amount of people playing it. But good god look at the TB servers...

For TB servers ....newer TB players at some point face the reality that they will very unlikely be able to have a chance competing with the older players. This is why I want resets for TB servers, as unpopular as this idea makes me. The concept of a wall for TB server isn`t really valid when you consider some empires that have been around for 4-6 years and you can`t expect a newbie to stick around for 4-6 years in order to hit the wall themselves because in those 4-6 years, those empires that have been around will have reached a new `benchmark` for the new `wall.

Oh, and being the RT player you are...I think you forget about the importance of artifacts on slower TB servers. Is it fair that old empires have that much more artifacts than the newer empires? Newer empires will never catch up. TB server gaming should be based on skill, not on seniority. Feel free to disagree with me there, I feel that the whole point of having a TB server is for strategy purposes. Perhaps this is the reason why DarkMaraudian wants to have the TB servers removed, because he lacks this sense of strategy? ;)

You see...the way the game is set up, it only encourages a certain type of gameplay, which is why very few join the game.

Those that complain the game is dead...it`s partially due to an increasingly scathing and sardonic community. At the rate this game is going...self proclaimed intellectuals (like yourself and others) have to be careful not to destroy it yourselves. This game is incredibly intolerant of newbies, I mean just look at the post the DarkGuardian guy made. Really guys, it seems that for all your talk, you dont WANT more players to join and learn about the game. It reflects in your actions.

No hard reset. I have finally earned enough on Slow to be a fed war target of M|K. Don`t take it away.
E evileye
SD that was well said (even if I did spend a whole night reading it). I`m a non-complaining, non-leaving newbie who has no issue with people being far ahead because they started years ago. As little as I know, resetting the server would send more away than it brought in. Now, back to clicking...

UberPansy step up and do a better job eh?

badwolf , and all the other admins who done a guilt trip as you call it are all Voluntary. they didnt / dont get paid to put up with you and are perfectly entitled to vent when you dont respect that.

So, SD, sometimes I love you. Lots.

You just kinda gangbanged the idea that always gets thrown around in these types of threads about how a hard reset would fix things...Props for you.

In fact after you gangbanged it you sodomized it with a retractable baton...
D DarkMaraudian
my eyes bleed from the spam , i refuse to read anything you said.

Oh but if I went `round sayin` I was Emperor, just because some moistened bint lobbed a scimitar at me, they`d put me away.

You lose moral when your faced with opposition by not only an inattentive creator, but when your most basic and simple backing...the fan base, the players themselves start brandishing pitchforks at the very people trying to do the most for you. Honestly how can you expect any one to do anything for you when he`s surrounded by a wall of neglect with his only inspiration spiting down the hole in his face...praise those who are trying to help you and praise those who come up with ideas instead of mocking them/telling them how impossible it is/ and praise yourselves for sticking around this far. This game needs a positive attitude not a negative one.
S ShatterdDreams
And lastly for all of you people out there that can only complain about the game or those that sign on every few months to see if things change and post about how there leaving and not coming back, (again), please stay gone...who needs you, we`ve made it this far with out you and we can keep going on without you as well....if you don`t like how things are...leave. The last thing this game needs is a nag who complains constantly and never offers to help make things better or to help come up with legitimate ideas on how to fix things or get Stephens attention. You want his attention spam his email, write him a message a day telling him what you like/don`t like/and would like to see done/ tell them about the staff, how you feel about them...just anything. Anything is better than the monotonous complaints. And to pansy....mate we`re not professionals...we`re volunteers we`re trying to make this a better place for everyone including ourselves. We do it because once upon a time we loved this game and wanted to do every thing we could for it. But we are limit by Stephen...you know person who`s responsible for 98% of the staff that`s quit. He`s difficult to get to..he knows little about his own game..sure he may know some of the coding or his idea`s but has he been around the last 5 years? Does he know our situations better than it`s volunteer staff...or more so by it`s players? The staff can only do so much...and some of us have more resolve for being criticized constantly plus having to put up with the higher ups involved.

So there is little cause for a hard reset the only think that it will do is drive away a few players...do you honestly think a slew of new players will join because they find out that there`s a reset once a year or w/e?...no what makes people join is advertisement. What makes people stay? A good atmosphere and friendly environment, with good game play. We have all those things and we`re trying to improve game play but things take time... but at least the gears of change are in motion. What you people are really asking for is a DM..so go annoy Stephen about fixing the DM.

So if you really want to help people stay around..adopt a newbie find one and talk to them...be friendly.

i think there should be an area that list all the new empire who signed up for the past week so that players can chat with and interact with them and encourage them to stay and teach them about the game. And I do think that this game should offer a free weeks paid to all new empires who sign up and each server to encourage them to stick around/plus show the benefits of a paid first hand.

Land is the key component...which is the only thing that can be infinite so technically speaking a mineral miner is the race/econ type that is the most pathetic of all since it has a true and definite income cap...a tax guard could make more with a single planet than a mineral miner with 15 c3`s...though it would take a few decades most likely...

there is a max pr cap....there`s a max cash amount, there`s a max resource cap, (some could use adjusting but they`ll be handled when they`re able too) there`s also a max arti cap and even a max debt cap...i mean it`s not like the longer you play the more god like you become...eventually you hit a wall....and does having max of anything make you better at playing the game....no, the more resources/cash you have the more potential you have to make fleets, thats it...the more arti`s you have the more annoying you become... the higher your pr the more out of the way you become and the less targets you have to hit and the less involved in the game you become unless everyone decides to target you.

Honestly how much harder is it for a newer empire to play this game than a game that gets a regular reset...i actually think it`s easier...because games that reset every once in a while usually allow a single player or group to eliminate everyone else resulting in just them left in the server....why because there are no limits on what they can do or who they can attack...at least on this game you have to be within a certain range to be hit by someone...where as in other games you could be hit by the person with the most power on the server and then you get ousted and have to restart from scratch....losing a battle on this game doesn`t result in death unless you change races...and when you do that you assume risk and should know what you`re doing a bit better by then.
S ShatterdDreams
if you were to do a hard reset how many players would GC lose then....some people only continue to play to this day because they have sunk alot of time and money into their accounts...and then you make all that go away without any compensation what so ever...

this game doesn`t require hard resets, it`s not a game where you can have unlimited grow....every empire has the same research cap (minus mission rewards) it takes about 462,500 turns to do that that turns into 1002 non paid hours for RT and 231,250 non paid hours for slow on Rt you get 4,045,846 turns a year as oppsoed to 17,539 turns a year on slow

I just wanted to show the numbers so you could see how long it really takes sure it looks impressive on rt, but you won`t get that kind of turns unless you never sleep/have no life or your a bot. So honestly for an average year lets say you`re looking at 8 hours a day so divide that max number by 3; so 1,348,615 turns a year so it would take on about 4 months playing 8 hours a day using turns just on infra to max it...that doesn`t include exploring or turns used to build ships....for slow it would take years. And feel free to check my math because I don`t trust it exactly but still look at those numbers...that amount of your life wasted...not to mention the turns it takes to research ships, to explore for cluster/borders, increase loyalty, allocate land, to fight?

Planets how many planets can an empire have? The max amount is 2250 that`s 18 c3`s a terran could plausibly do it...not likely though so lets go with a more believable figure 1878 15 c`3s and 3 borders...and that is the probably the zenith that an empire could reach to...though of course planets don`t mean anything except to a miner.

I think everybody knows this game will never ever be more popular than it is right now; it`s only going to slowly go more downhill. Its had its hayday and that`s gone now. I`m sure Badworlf is trying very hard to make it better, but without any support from Stephen (of which there is absolutly x all or stuff would be getting done), all we will get is a long string of empty promises and `maybe in future`s.

I`ll be honest, I don`t care. I quit this game a long time ago, just come on for 10 minutes every few days. I`m not even paid anymore...
U UberPansy
I hope my point is obvious, but if it isn`t, no one cares how bad your job sucks. DO something about it yourself, or if you need help ask for it. Frankly it sounds like you`re in over your head BadWolf, if so I suggest you step down for your own sanity.
U UberPansy
These guilt trip attempts by the admins are an ever present distraction: anyone can lead a group of willing sheep, my respect belongs to the one who can lead a disjointed rabble to success. Do professionals whine about their jobs to their subserviants? I`m reminded of baseball legends who had never missed a game in their career, they didn`t make excuses they were there everyday getting the job done.

"People still join the game...unforunately they just don`t ever come back again."

would you if you couldn`t even build ships to battle with?
G grantweep
"and as we all know rich does not eguate to powerful on GC"

Oh, really?

But seriously about the issue at hand...I agree with some of what`s already been said, and going a BIT further, here are my thoughts:

I`m pretty sure that if some sort of hard reset mechanism is implimented people will start playing the game again (either UW`s affect artis, decrease infra slightly or reduce planet land etc...). There`s just no fun fighting when there`s NO way you can win for the average newbie who doesn`t know how to play. And plus we all know that some of the TB servers are fairy dominated by a group of players. It`s no fun when there`s no real fighting going on due to OP empires

People still join the game...unforunately they just don`t ever come back again. And I like the idea of giving people paids when they first join from an email address. I can`t think of a way this could be abused, cept maybe for RT so make it for TB servers only. In my experience, this might really keep players hooked and coming back for more.
