I don`t think this is a new idea. It`s so obvious though; I have no idea why it hasn`t been implimented since the beginning. If somebody hit me and then VMed until their counter expired I wouldn`t be best pleased if i needed planets from them.

Yeah Mara I understand the whole hiding in VM until the ranks change situation. I thought this thread was focusing on hiding from counter attacks. That seems more of a problem with the ability to hold onto a large fleet when entering VM. Perhaps you lose a large portion of your fleet when you hit VM? Because I do agree that is a strategy that would be better removed.

I also like the idea of them having to renew their VM before getting the turns (or as I said two hours after it expires). I think that something like that limiting the reVMing after using those buffer turns would be a step in the right direction.

that almost sounds like your watching people exploit a bug and not reporting it to me fubar , there is a limit of 24 hours after atacking some one ( possibly server refresh , i dont recall ) , if you see someone bypassing it the proof is infinitely slapped in there event log so all you need to do is report them for cheating...

I hear what you are saying about the rules saying an empire has to wait 24 hours to VM after hitting someone, but that is not what I see every month.

I have seen people post hits on UW`s here and then show up in VM on that server just 10 minutes later.

That is VM abuse. If only because they have found a way around the 24 hour hold.

I could agree to that HB. People who hid from counter attacks with VM are using a loop hole in the rules to limit the time they are exposed to the chance of big damage.

As game changes go I think it is no big deal and may impact only 1 or 2 people per server who cronicly do this.

This change would have a near zero impact on the game play of all other legitimate VM users.

putting a penalty on vming would make me very angry, since I`m sure a good number of us vm for good reasons.

Slavyzz , youve missed alot of tactical advantages of VM out of your theory , even though i agree with everything you said.

the said person VM`ing to avoid loss`s has the freedom to remain safe untill the ranks change etc and he is safe to come out without risk.

some idea`s to prevent abuse are for example

no free protection after VM expires.
a limit on how you re-vm ( for example if your going to extend your VM you need to do so 24-48 hours in advance of its expiration ) , if they miss it they cant set it for x amount of time after it expires ( or contact an admin in the cases were you obviously arnt just abusing it )

the game shouldnt punish people for VM , thats a silly idea.

but i agree, there shouldnt be any advantages to VM mode either , counters shouldnt expire etc
