Stacking VS Spamming

I have been doing the 10 equal stack thing pretty much since I started, as I was under the impression that it was the best way to make a fleet. I have been noticing though that no one I have attacked or that has attacked me has done this though. In all the battle reports I have, with the exception of 1 time when I attacked someone named Joker who also stacked.

Am I missing something here, If it is supposed to be more effective to stack why do I not see more people doing so? Or was I incorrect in assuming stacking was better, and should also switch to spamming?

P.S. i hate this forum setup. It always defaults my post to some forum that I cant even find.

Galleon rules! 10 stack in close PR is tough defensive fleet. Often so good, you don`t get dp and lose on second round :( For a quick attack, spam may be required.

I`ve been playing again for about a week and pretty much spammed nothing but Galleon! Hardly lost a battle! =D

pure spam is no good unless u know what ur hitting... full stacks are risky i perfer the semi stack take 4 stacks build to 20% pr then use 20% for the last 6 .. u can mix up the prs but semi stacks have always been my fav... stacking is nice but it`s just so slow that 90% the time i can`t build stacks and build pr too ..so i semi stack since i`m aminer it works great since my high hull means my top 4 take less then i inflict .... also a spam of 20mil will get hit alot less then if u stack to say 5mil ..so same amount of time gets u more time outta dp... i mix up my ratios and leading ships depending on what i expect to hit me

Mixing it up is the best strategy. Someone who always stacks and is known to always stack, always loses.

What you should do depends a lot on why and where you play.

If you play because you like beautiful wins, or just dont know what to use your turns, then build 10 equal stacks. Some people think stacked fleets are more beautiful.

If you play at RT, then do whatever you like to. Turns is not your limiting factor.

If you play at TB and fight for the ranks, then cap spams is often the most efficient way to go. But you will get further, if you mix those cap spams with some semi-stacked and full stacked fleets. Just mix it up from time to time.

spamming capital ships is the best way to gain pr fast if you need to. once you got time most will be more inclined to build stacks, but spamming can be mighty effective in a lot of situations. although attacking a 10 stack wont get you 3 cols.

If you get something with a lot of hull on the top of your 10 stacks, like fodder, you can essentially "block" their spam, preventing it from damaging your other 9 stacks.

Then they will flank the spam to death, ships with the no retal attribute are even better because then the spam can`t fire back as they flank

After I first made this thread I have been going over possible battle scenarios with the Green Yeti battle sim.

I think I will stay with my original strategy. I have learned that a 2 stack spam (which is what I have been attacked with 60% of the time) can only get 1 planet on an attack no matter what battle stance they use, as long as the stack are all close together in PR and all stacks below the 4th have no retal.
They can only kill stacks 1 and 2 on the first wave and 3 and 4 on the 2nd, which will be slightly higher than 40% of fleet PR and they need to kill at least 50% to get 2 planets.

though stacking is effective it is not always victorious over a spam. in fact many people are very effective with spams.

its not that spamming is better. its that people are too LAZY or incapable of stacking...
