Impossible for new collective?

I just restarted my race to collective, I want to try a few different races before I picked one to stay with.

Anyways... I was doing research waiting to find someone to attack since collective cannot explore. Then I realized when going through the ship list that all collective ships and neutral ships require at least 1 mineral type that at the time was not currently available on the RT market.

Eventually there was a posting of minerals that I needed but I did have to wait for quite a while.

IMO at least one collective or neutral ship should require only Terran metal. That way a new collective can at least stand a chance of accomplishing something when the market is empty, other than sitting with 1 planet and twiddling your thumbs.

The entire theme of the Collective seems to be momentum.

It is difficult to start with an action. Nothing comes quickly. Vulnerability to being wiped out, no exploration for colonies, no immediate source of income, a predictably small set of ships to build... You`ve even gotta assimilate planets before they`re useful.

But once you`re moving, once you`ve made progress, once you`ve sold enough food and bought enough minerals and captured enough colonies, you gather momentum. Once you`ve fielded a fleet for a while, the variety of ships you assimilate in battle are incredibly difficult for any enemy to anticipate. I`ve had more than 20 ship types in my fleet before.
And with planets, you can absorb a colony from your outer edge if you have assimilated inner colonies with which to group it.

Being Collective can be riskier than other races due to the need to harness your momentum properly. It may leave you unable to move out of the way, or it may carry you into a wall. But once you`re moving where you want to be moving, the journey is certainly rewarding.

The way some of the ship mineral requirements is set up is plain bad. If I had my way, there would be a global overhaul on mineral costs. :P

yea collectivbe is suppose to be a hard race to play but if you really want ships with no min requirement then play as maru, the only ships for them that need mins are d class

Collective is supposed to be one of the harder races to play. Newbies can start as Terran or graduate to Miner to have easy ships to build.

i agree i think collective should have a ship that don`t need minerals great idea doesn`t have to be fancy just something for the newbielets to start their galactic conquest.. one the reason i never played collective was this .. marauders u can amass a nice lil amount of planets with just eel and mantras a shame collective can`t =(

Yes I saw that, and did PM him already. I do appreciate your reply though.
I was just pointing out that IMO anyways It seems rather not very well thought out that you cannot get started on your own without relying on something free. I can only imagine how difficult it would have been before this free mineral give away.

The thread at the top of the forum entitled `A Helping hand to new empires` explains that you can get 5k of each mineral to get started, all you have to do is PM qwerty360.
