so who are the novel readers ?

OttO, As I travel, I am listening right now to the audio version of the best novel IMHO by an American author of the twentieth century: All The King`s Men by Robert Penn Warren.

One of the greatest statements ever made on the nature of the self, besides being the definitive novel on American politics.

I would be interested to know what others feel is the best novel of the 20th century written by an author from their birthplace.

Ender your roommate should try reading William Faulkner, if he has the intellectual skill to handle it.

Pure stream of consciousness from the most intellectual writer the US has produced.

Or maybe he should quit peeking at your laptop and get back to his studies.

I left the forum open and my roommate read some of it...
his only comment was that reading OttOmaNs` posts was reminiscent of having a stream of conscience conversation with a schizophrenic person. o.0

And yes SD, The Things They Carried was an awesome book. Both entertaining and educational for sure. Even if you don`t like war stories, I`d say it`s a winner.

lol TPE, i`ve read plenty of books in my time, The Divine Comedy, The Iliad, The Odyssey, Gilgamesh, some of the Mahabharata (it`s a bit long) and yep even newer novels like Enders Game or The Things they Carried ( good book for lovers of war stories) ect.. but you notice all of these save for the Divine Comedy and the Dime Novels are really old. The only things i really like to read are generally historical pieces or those relating to mythologies, or older religious text i find them interesting and appealing.

where as stories wrote by Bob Whatshisface from Wabasha, Minnesota trying to depict his view on his world, while also striving to interpret some theory that he once read in a science magazine while relating that to his own day dreams then sharing it to the world through a book. things like that just don`t interest me don`t get me wrong, i`m not belittling Bob Whatshisface or his contemporaries nor am i belittling those who read and enjoy his works. just saying it`s not for me and i prefer the mystery of looking back to the past reading works that usually have no known author or some since of obscurity that makes you question whether they existed or they didn`t.

Plus it helps that i`m an artist by nature and i would rather spend my days painting, sculpting, or drawing rather than looking over monotonously drab Characters and symbols, and for those mathematicians out there, doing calculations with imaginary figures trying to prove that each event that happened is interconnected by a sequence brought about by the laws of our dimension (that we`ve yet to figure out in entirety) and can be explained by a net work of inter-linking formula *bleh*

but then again that`s boring to me, not my hobby and not my cup of tea, but bless people who write novels and who study equations, if it weren`t for them progress would be a bit lax. you got to get ideas flowing some how.

i got my online prg name from a book i loved reaiding called The Wreckers by i dunno who :P and the only other book i can think of off the top of my head is Eye of the Dragon by stephen king i read that one twice i think :)

I read a book one time, it was amazing. Best book I ever read. I can`t remember the name or the author, but it was good. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. I would not be half the man I am today without that book. Better than all the books I have never read for sure. It was a book and that book was good.

On a different note, I am in love with Ayn Rand, she is amazing. Her books Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged changed my life. I was high the entire time reading them and for weeks afterward. Long reads, but worth every moment spent reading them. Truly great books.

Otto and SD, I think the answer lies between both of you. Life should not be lived through a book, however life can be enhanced by certain books. Read them, enjoy them, but do not depend on them for your source of life and excitement. But what do I know, I be ignorant.

And otto, you must realized that there is a substance called sarcasm in a lot of SD`s words, you must not take them too literally, though he is not entirely joking, there is some truth there.

More Stephen King than I can count. Prey from Michael Crichton (Sphere is good too if you haven`t seen the movie). Grisham and Clancy make great commute books on CD (listening to them is easier on the eyes and make a 2 hr drive home from work seem short). For the Louis L`Amor Fans, look for Education Of a Wandering Man at the dolor store, (Cheap biography of the man written by the Man). And Otto, go to the library and check out Treasure Island by Robert Lewis Stevenson.

i`ve read quite a few mainly fantasy .. i love to read but haven`t read much lately

i`ve read wheel of time and after book 5 felt it started to to go down hill...
read sword of truth series and felt it was good but the ending wasn`t too great...
read the dark tower series and liked it had some really lol parts and alot of action the ending made sense but was kinda annoyed with it
read 4 of song of ice and fire guess i should see if theres any new ones out
read lotr after watching the movies and as 9 outta times the books WAY better i mean theres so much depth..
off the top of my head can`t remember any others was YEARS back

wow mobo manuals are for newbies i perfer schematics of of radar equipment... oh when i see that 240 volts get changed to 7k volts and a magnetron... ohhh weee *changes his pants* ahh much better

Mobo manuals are always a great read... sometimes I hide under my bed covers with a flashlight, looking at the diagrams late at night.

Orson Scott Card has written some very good books, regardless of his social skills (or lack there of).

novels? i`ve stopped reading those books when i get more kick by reading mo-bo`s manuals... lol...

ahhh... the specs and diagrams andfuture upgrades of the boards will make me drool compared to Danielle Steele`s steamy pages... :P

but there were times i read Tom Clancy, Dale (not Dan) Brown and Robotech`s series... all about military stuff... i love the most for "Flight Of The Old Dog".... pity, it won`t be on the screen like "Firefox"... :)
