This offer is nolonger available as it takes too long for the admins and I believe neither of us have the time to do it.

One of the big problems plaguing GC is a lack of new players. The first step to curing this is to ensure that the players we get continue to play.

As such for the time being all new empires on RT (Whether by restarting or new sign ups) will recieve 5k of each mineral.

As this is being run by me by hand to recieve your minerals you must PM an admin -- Preferably me!

Also as an added bonus if you introduce someone with your slave empire link you will also recieve 5k of each mineral when they request it.

For turnbased players --
Depending on how well this works I will extend it to cover the turn based servers.

For the UW thing it couldn`t it be set up so that UW effects don`t hit empires under say 30 days old?

I imagine that even with a 90% loss vets would still have at least 5x more minerals/cash/food than these baby empires anyway. This gives the newbs chance to built up their reserves and learn about the game without losing everything straight away when the universe explodes.

Obviously a warning should be set so that these new players know when they will be effected by big scary UW`s.

Help in the manual should also be included so that newbies understand the market, racial modifiers, defence modifiers and such. The tech tree could also be reduced slightly perhaps by just having 1 research thing each for C class and F class ships so that new empires can spend more time on their infra instead of researching this stuff.

.... friend told me about it so i signed up.... NO idea what i`m doing, lol. any advice for someone who LITERALLY knows nothing about the game? (fyi, i`ve played games that this one reminds me of so i understand the CONCEPTS of it)

Flame & DarthPudu - taking away newbie protection from vet is a bad idea, as some of the inactive vets keep their account alive through NP (who wants to lose their investment in infra research), and plus it will make things harder for kill-able race such as collective and marauders with few empires coming out of DP already. and plus there will be more inactive 1 planet vet empires popping out everyday since they cant be killed. Anyway some of the vet can live through VM abuse and the rest may just quit instead which will just put this idea into another failure lol.

I think new player should experience what vet had experience when they started the game to prevent disparity. mineral boost and free infra level thats more than generous already. Maybe force them to start in RT first so they will learn quick.

As a newb who has been here before, quit, and came back; I have some comments. I like the idea of preventing newb protection for old empires. It should be based on how old the account is, not empire age, this prevents rebooting to get DP, but should be 90 days or so. Thirty days isn`t enough to learn how the game really works. Another idea I like is improving the guides. More strategies, with some better editing. The English in some is painful to read, and I`m no literature professor.
More flexible missions, so a newb can try different tactics while still getting mission benefits.
Another good idea is to do a little better job of explaining what is going on with special modifiers.
One last item, a big, full screen warning when an empire is about to do something really dumb, like go 50 million in debt to try to retalliate against the guy who just took the first U. Barren planet you have ever seen, after you finally got it filled with commercial (not that I did that :O)

It`s all good Augustine, that was an understandable misinterpretation.

I remember a while ago that someone pointed out that how much you lose after a UW is not as important as how much you make per turn. Now we`re talking about cutting infra levels. How does this help new players? Cutting infra levels simply serves to make older empires more similar to newer ones as far as infra, but not necessarily planets unless we nuke there as well.

Let`s look at taking 5 infra levels from an empire on fast that is at the 2500 point. That`s 37 days worth of turns down the drain. 30 for ultra. Nuking a months worth of turns is extremely harsh IMO. Are we suggesting that those in the UW bearer`s fed would not take this hit. I hope not; otherwise, we are doing even more to drive a bigger disparity between empires in the game.

A solution for new empires should be targeted specifically at them not nerfing older ones. Doing otherwise, never plays out as we guestimate it will. It seems simple to me, just reduce the amount of turns needed to do research. Plus I like the idea of "seeding" their empires with a nominal cache of minerals, food, etc.
F Flame
Why not take another approach though I am not sure how this might impact a UW. Don`t allow empires over 30 days to hide in newbieie status. This will encourage play. And, allow new empires (below 30 days) to be in newbieie DP up to 10k. This will allow for more playing experience before the predators attack.
S Startopia
the new goal of the game is to create lucas empire.

GC flowchart: GC problem--> imbalance something then balance it later, in that attempt of balancing is actually had imbalance part of the game then try to balance it again which imbalance something and so on....

they are now working ways to punish us for not fighting a group whose main goal is to UW. In the first place theres no need to reward a UW cause we had problem attracting new players.
and now we should teach new players of the concept of UW right from the start, goal of the game.. its either be rewarded or punished lol.
F fuzzypenguin
I love how this forum goes from Helping new players out once they start to the problems with UW`s. I mean what if a newer player reads all this talk about UW`s? there new to the game and wont need to know about UW`s til later. Maybe some advise about how to start playing would be better to talk about in this forum. and maybe you can start a UW thread else where...
I Infernal
and as an added bonus, some players might even welcome the -levels as that would help them redistribute past "mistake" levels
D Deiloche
Yeah. A 111 infra guardian is going to suggest UWs reduce his infra to 30. That makes sense.
A Augustine
well my bad i was up all night ill from a night read wrong i saw under 30 uneffected i thought everything was reduced above that to 30 sigh
E EvilLoof
70 lvls wow, no one have mentioned that, so far it`s been 600 turns or 2 levels lol.....

and the reason for suggesting this is to actually make old empires fight against uw`s. You for instance could easy have made some good hits on grant or dm i bet, but didn`t hit once, as resource loss dont matter much when you have a big income.
A Augustine
yea well grant your screwing over the veterans by your idea your just going to make wat the core of whats left with killing infra why should any 5 year empire suffer on normal when they put alot of effort in and time to get to 100 commercial + or housing or mining etc just to lose 70 levels in a uw

this idea deserves to be put in the bin

new empires give them 20 levels of there choosing free or something instead if you want to help them let them decide were to put it
U UberPansy
They won`t complain cuz they don`t have a voice, and largely don`t exist (hope I`m wrong) :P

My mutant ana.logy is just a caution about trying to fix something that never worked to begin with. I understand that stephen holds the real programming power, I just don`t want to see us ruin what little we have left with knee jerk thinking.
G grantweep
True, I want to hear from the ppl we are actually advocating for too, but I mean everything with our suggestions enpowers newbie players...so i dont see why they would complain :P
