It used to play a part in the battle formula, you used to get a better advantage from attacking someone in your own sector ... you`d have been assigned a sector on sign up, think of it as a quadrants of the galaxy you`re in.
However that went out of play back in 2004 and hasn`t been sen since, it no longer plays a part in the battle formula, so its pretty much irrelevant.
just think of it as that little section of space you call home.
