With the ships that can attack other ships and not get attacked back could you wipe out a whole fleet, or if they have one of that type can it attack back too? Another thing, when it says attack does it mean telling your fleet to attack another empire or ships attacking each other within the battle.

and what about when the ships have no defense does that mean they can`t reataliate that turn if attacked and have to wait to the next turn to attack normally

when ships have "no retaliation" (Ships attacked by this ship cannot return fire.) it means that they can`t be retaliated when they shoot, but then can be shot at afterwards, just not directly (this is called flanking)
when both ships don`t have these specials they will both shoot and retaliate, this is caleld attacking in the detailed logs.

when you attack another empire they will be automaticly defended by their ships, aslong as they have some build
