I`m a Newbie to GC. I just found my first planet. It`s barren and seems to be only good for producing Red Crystal. What is Red Crystal? And how much should I spend developing this kind of planet?

the initial homeworld will always be a balanced 500 land with terran metal that is the only constant.
each mineral type assists you in building different kinds of ships once you`ve researched them.
