Im a little confused as to what to use the orbs for... i used a purple orb and a yellow orb on myself, and there seems to be no change in my stats. can someone tell me what they are used for?

Yes they are in fact useless by themselves but if you complete the Capsule Lab project they can be fused together to form cooler stuff :)
