for non-paid accounts, once you get to Act 2, the mission screen says that you have to become a Paid User or complete the game via "special missions." What does it mean by that, where are the "special missions" located, and is there any requirements to unlock them?

"Special Missions" is the Ultimate Weapon, a.k.a. the KalZul Overmind Project. It is first in Research, the KalZul Overmind Project, then KalZul Artifact. Then Projects, the KalZul Hektar then the Loktar, once you finish the Loktar, you wait 48 hours and blow up the universe. Your fed loses 2/3 of all market resources and cash, everyone else loses 90%, and you get to restart as any playable race. It is not reccomended to try to activate the Overmind Project until you have a very powerful empire and many powerful allies, even then it takes a lot of skill and luck from all involved to successfully set it off. During the 48 hour period, all attack restrictions on the empire activating the UW are lifted, and Damage Protection for that empire is 1 hour instead of 24 hours. If you lose a battle below 500,000 pr, or when you have 3 or less colonies, then the UW is destroyed. If not, you get to click the red button and everyone is logged out for a few minutes to read the notification that the server was blown up. The two types of UW that you will generally see are Power and Explore. Power, the person builds up to a high pr of several hundred million, and has their allies try to prevent the rest of the server from doing too much damage to them. These are by far the most difficult UW`s to perform. Explore UW`s involve using starbases to keep your pr above the required minimum and using your 60 minutes Damage Protection, then exploring until you get hit again. This type of UW is generally frowned upon, because it does`t require skill in the eyes of most. The easiest way to kill one of those is to use several Historias on the hopeful empire, then hit them twice and the UW will be gone.
