Food as a terran

So I recently captured a Similaire C2 planet, from a collective (I am terran). It says it produces around 3K food a turn. BUT i am seeing my food supplies dissapear very quickly. Can a terran use the food produced by a Similaire..OR do I need to disband this before my food supply vaporizes and i die off?

you need to " unassimilate it " costing 5 turns , it will then turn into a C1 with 4 plannets
