Stats do matter, dont let anyone tell you they dont. They matter in that they simply record and reflect your win/loss ratio and battle history... and define the type of player you are. If you`re the kind to give up planets and lose a bunch of battles, it shall be shown in colonies lost and battles lost just as if you are a good fighter and win all the time your wins and colonies won will be high. Some people like to say stats dont matter because you can easily make yourself look good by "n00b hunting", or bad by just not paying attention, but they definitely do reflect the player. For example, when I used to run a fed I would always check stats before allowing somebody in. A player with more losses than wins, for example, wouldnt make the cut just because they obviously lose more than they win, and thats not good no matter how you put it and no matter how rich you are. Obviously there are people with insanely good stats just because they sit low and kill newbies (i do sometimes... im a plunder maru) but you just have to take that into account when judging a player. So basically yes stats totally matter, but only to a certain extent.
