what is the purpose of clustering ?

Clustering is to allow you to have hundreds of planets to keep. Each race has a specific Max Colony Limit.
1 Gas Planet takes up 1 Colony Space
1 Cluster Level 3 also takes up 1 Colony Space
so you can see that instead of only having 1 planet to take up that space you can have 125 planets which is equal to a C3 ^_^
