Alright. Lets do this thing. We need to decide what the absolutely most important things to change are... what needs to be done FIRST, before anything else. My suggestions are:

-Fix the collective/viral mineral bug
-Fix up existing missions and give missions to all races
-Viral upkeep (preferably standardized per ship class, but at least standardized in general)

Anyway, post what you think are the most important things for us to ask Stephen to do IMMEDIATELY (in the assumption that he will be fixing other things later, with our positive feedback) and then we can decide as a community how to go about this.

For reference to previous ideas... http://gc.gamestotal.com/hef.cfm?f=hef_detail&hi=5938&ch=100

... wow. Can`t believe I forgot the collective/viral capture bug... especially considering I play viral/collective on three servers. ^^; Meh, I`ve always been more the economic guy anyway.

Explanation about the mineral bug for those who don`t know: for collectives and virals, instead of each planet producing a given amount of minerals (as it`s supposed to be) each colony produces a certain number of minerals. Look at a viral like badwolf with 600 planets or a collective like me on fast with 180ish... biiiiig difference, especially for collectives whose ships have a lower mineral demand.

I understand where you`re coming from, TH... but fixing existing bugs is WAY more important than updating with new stuff. As bips said, it`s silly to introduce more content into an already buggy system and increase the number of bugs, some of which may compound themselves on previous bugs... you never upgrade a system before fixing what was wrong with it. That`s just horrible programming.

I am not aware of the mineral bug or Viral upkeeps, but other people who play those races seem to like the idea of fixing it, so I support Deiloche`s ideas.

On TheHominion`s ideas, good luck finding people willing to do all that coding.

great i get edited
sorry though what ever wrong i posted

comeon.. try not to get distracted.. I agree that bug needs to be fixed first before adding stuff... otherwise it will be difficult to iron out the bug in the future...
So i support the 3 ideas from deli :D

Bip, you dont have to be so hard on hominion, However, Hominion, the history of GC is Stephen never gave his 2 cents in fixing, updating the game, so in a sense your looking at the quickest way to solve some problem is minor easy fixes
S StormofBladeZ
Homys got the right idea.
But please. cmon you guys really think stephen cares still? besides the income that hes getting.

I like Hominoms idea, stephen shouldent complain, more money for two seconds of his time..As for what needs updating..

I want the V Class bug fixed...major problem in battling =/

Hey ive been playing the game for a few months now and i still have fun with this game since im still learning but like you guys said i already have things i think could change and im new. I agree with TheHominion on th idea of coming up with ideas giving it to admins and having stephen sign off on it. I also like the idea of a new race every 12 to 24 months, but still think the bugs should be worked out first.

This way the bugs get worked out. Then if he does the admin thing of signing off ideas change will happen to and everyone gets what they want.........thats just my thought
;)
B bipbippy
Didn`t mean to shoot you down or anything TheHominion. Was just adding my two cents worth too. :)
T TheHominion
ok I was just adding my 2 cents...
B bipbippy
TheHominion, I`d have to disagree with you. A large majority of us would really like to see the bugs fixed BEFORE Stephen would move on to updating. I mean, Stephen did the last major update (with the addition of 2 new races), a little over 4 years ago now, and that update still doesn`t work right. If he updates the game more, it`s just going to be adding bugs on top of bugs. It`s not a matter of people abusing the bugs, it`s more a matter of getting the game balanced out the way Stephen intended it to be. If we get the mineral bug fixed so that collectives and virals properly produce minerals, then the demand on the mineral market will drop (particularly on RT). It would also be great if Stephen would fix the capture bug. I`m not sure if it`s a problem with the collectives, but as a viral, capturing doesn`t always work right. For example, if you have existing Pyths in your stack, capture more, but your original stack gets wiped out, then you don`t keep any of the ones you captured either, because the server thinks they got wiped out.

I`m all for updating things and adding new races, but fixing the old bugs has to come first. That`s just basic rules of coding...
T TheHominion
Deiloche,

Its called a CVS server and its not magic. No project with *one* bottle neck will ever grow, especially when that bottleneck has other priorities (to which I don`t begrudge him)

Sometimes you have to do a little work today so things are better going forward. All I am saying is if were going to try to save this game lets do it right, lets set it up for future success as well.. What happens if God help us Stephen has twins next time ;)

If we focus our efforts on getting Stephen to select a few paid admins or other people he trust to be allowed to submit code directly to him (for his sign off) before someone else does the work of implementation we have let him keep control of the games future while giving the work to the people who benefit most, the community.

If indeed your changes are *that* easy then once his minions can submit code in a process to him he can sign off on those with an `ok` and be done with it. We can have a community contest or designing the next race or ship class which again will have 90% of the work done before Stephen has to become involved and if our ideas suck he can simply say, try again.
D DeilocheOP
Well, my suggestions (with the possible exception of the first) should be incredibly easy. The third, in fact, was once coded, but apparently Stephen`s computer crashed and he lost the entire update he was working on. Adding new missions, especially if we do not create rewards outside of the current parameters (increased loyalty, bonus planets, etc) is simply a matter of reusing code. I chose for my suggestions not simply things that the game needs, but also things that should be incredibly easy for Stephen to implement, especially if we do all of the work. The difficult part of coding an online game is how to deal with the multi-user application part. The code running the game is vastly simpler.
M Mouichido85
I think it is annoying how you check your email at home..You don`t delete it, but you read it right? You go to school and get on SFGC, and it says you have email..Well you don`t.. I find that more of an annoying bug..
T TheHominion
Deiloche,

To be frank anything short of empowering others to improve the game is nothing but a short term band-aid..

If I might humbly suggest:

1) Empower all paid admins to do the following (via a process on which Stephen can sign off on). Or enable a group that Stephen himself picks..

- a) Add and remove and modify ships
- b) Modify racial characteristics as needed
- c) Create Missions at will

In addition to this I would add for Stephen

1) Create a new race every 18-24 months *or* empower the admins to do it.

--

I find most people are not annoyed so much by bugs (after all you can boot abusers) but the lack of change in this game. The lack or Racial evolution, the lack of events that change the dynamics.

Once a substantial number of folks in the community can make changes Stephen might me more amenable to making them as he will not bear the brunt of the work involved. Lets face it hes a new father and thats dang time consuming. This will give him oversight of SFGC but allow him to work on other projects as he sees fit.
O OnDante
I agree that those are probably the highest priority items. Writing missions for races will probably increase the number of people who want to play the paid races, thus raising game revenue. These three are a terrific start, and once they are implemented, we`ll move on to discuss the next round (like the forum fix).
