Yes Cluster loaning to complete mission is very common but dangerous. $@)BadWolf and Accordex are the amsters of defensive fleets and VMing that`s why they keep their c.3.
Training from trailia you got to know when to hold them and you got to know when to counter never count your clusters at the table until the game is done. VM exceeding 7 days give you breathignr oom but nor elates which kinda sucks.

Mara - I had dropped all the pop on the cluster and was trying to grab some borders off of a lower PR player.
