Fun Idea?

I had an idea that might bring some fun to the game. Kinda like a lot of work places do with Employees of the Month and Employees of the Year. I thought it would be fun to do a "Player of the Month" and then maybe even a "Player of the Year". We could set up 1 [G] or [A] who wants to run it and then at the end of each month, players could PM their vote to the designated G/A. Rules would have to be like #1) you can`t vote for yourself. #2) only one vote per player (no matter how many servers you play on). The winner each month could get a free month paid on the server of their choice (or something).

Then for player of the year - at the end of the year, a list would be made of all the monthly winners, and players would vote for one of them to be player of the year. They could win a free year or maybe a free 3 month gold pack or something. Could probably give them a choice of prizes or something.

This could also be expanded to "Rookie of the Year" (month too if we wanted). This would have to be someone who signed up their account in that year (or month). So like Rookie of the Year for 2008 would have to have an `08 account. If we did Rookie of the Month, it would be like March winner = someone who has a March `08 account. Rookie winners could have similar prizes as Player of the Month/Year prizes.

I was thinking something more like player of three months, lol. And I already gave you ideas on how to keep it from being a popularity contest. Have a council that chooses based on nominees, rather that having all of GC vote.

each fed doesnt necassarily need to pick a member of their fed, make it so that each fed gets one vote, the fed decides who the player of the month is, then that player is cast into the other fed leaders votes

but then you have the fedless peoples...

and if a month paid is too much for a monthly prize, why not make it a month paid, but only vote for a winner every 2 months

i like the idea of each fed nominating one of their members, but then it would be hard for people who aren`t in a fed to win... maybe we could just do nominees in general. Everyone could nominate someone, and then we could do like the top 10 nominees go in for the actual vote.

get some nominees maybe? You need to do something to be nominated - completed all missions, UW, some kind of a record beaten etc etc(maybe funny battle won with great PR difference etc etc etc). Get some people to determine who is worthy enough. Maybe each fed ellects one player then all fed leaders vote for a shortlist of 10 players or sth. That`s just some random ideas so don`t bash me please...

Ok so it seems like most people agree this would be fun to do. So now we need to brainstorm some ideas for prizes... It has to be something that is easy for one player to donate to another because this is sounding like it will just be player run, with no admin or Stephen involvement... so list your ideas here people! :)

Also, as for parameters, that`s something we could discuss as a community, but I was thinking it should be game-wide, not based on what server they are playing on. So one month there might be an RT winner, and another month a Normal winner, etc.

I`m not sure what other way we could do a vote without doing popular vote. The panel is an interesting idea, but who decides who would be on the panel? And is anyone ever truly neutral and unbiased. No matter how the votes are taken, someone is always going to disagree with who is chosen.

Maraudian - I understand your trust issue. Perhaps we could set up an account that only you and I know the password too? Or if you don`t want to be involved, myself and a couple of others? That way there is always someone to check up on myself and make sure I`m not making up a winner to benefit myself or something?

Keep the ideas coming guys! We`ve finally hit on something that could actually be fun to do for awhile. And if we do it for a couple months and don`t like the way it`s going, we can always pull the plug! :)

Ok Del - if you think a month paid is too much of a prize for "Player of the Month", what would you have in mind? I just picked that because there`s no way to give 2 weeks paid as a prize. :)

Funny... I hadn`t really noticed GC taking overly much time for me, really. I simply play when I`m on the computer bored. Whether that is an hour or longer, it is still quite easy to handle all the servers at once, and that is WITHOUT losing clusters! Not really important, of course.

Is it? I hadn`t noticed. It doesn`t seem to give you any advantage other than forgetting your DP time and losing clusters... I rarely forget my DP time, and certainly not with clusters on the line... so I certainly fail to see where your "advantage" is.
